Happy Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July dear readers! The President and First Lady celebrated Independance Day with a South Lawn barbecue for White House staff and armed servicemen and women today. For the patriotic occasion, Mrs. O donned a red and blue floral dress by Sophie Theallet, from the designer's Spring 2011 collection, seen here. Black ruffle sandals carried through the black accent of the dress straps, while beaded Jordan Alexander bracelets and hoop earrings accessorized the ensemble. Hope everyone is having a spendid holiday weekend!

A Toast to Style

Photo by Kevin Lamarque / Reuters

The President and First Lady attended a state dinner at La Moneda Palace in Santiago, Chile this evening. For the event, Mrs. O wore an off-the-shoulder, empire waist dress, which hit just below the knee. More to style.

Update: The First Lady wears an "azalea off-the-shoulder silk mousseline" dress by Sophie Theallet from Spring 2011. A similar version was shown on the runway, here.

Mrs. O's necklace is comprised of navy "Baroque Chinese South Sea pearls" with diamond accents, designed by Jordan Alexander and available at Fragments.

Cats, Hats and Two First Ladies

Image by Jose Luis Magana / AP Photos

It was more Dr. Seuss for Mrs. O today, as the First Lady visited Oyster-Adams Bilingual Elementary School in Washington, D.C. and read "A Cat in the Hat" to young students. Joining Mrs. O was Margarita Zavala, the First Lady of Mexico, who read "The Whale Song" in Spanish. The event was part of the First Lady's continued support of Read Across America.

On the fashion front, Mrs. O turned to a looser shilouette than we often see her wear, donning a mixed print dress paired with black suede boots. P.S. Thanks to readers Steven and Jermaine, who identified this dress as Sophie Theallet Fall 2010, seen here.
