A Grand Finale

The first lady is in the audience for the final night of the Democratic National Convention, with the president due to speak later this evening. For the occasion, Mrs. O is wearing a full-skirt, bateau neckline dress in a perfect-for-fall eggplant hue print. An Alexis Bittar lucite dogwood pin at the neckline completes the look.

Update: Mrs. O wears a dress by designer Laura Smalls. The first lady wore a dress by Smalls earlier in the week, seen here. What a wonderful moment for the rising designer! Smalls says, "I could not believe my eyes that Michelle Obama wore our dress to this historic event. Words cannot describe how my team and I feel."

This dress is so beautiful!! I love that it's keeping in the same color palate that she wore to the DNC in 2008. She looked STUNNING!!!! I love how her gray hairs are shining in this pic. Tonight was great!! I love seeing the LOVE between my First Lady and President!! The girls were beautiful and my President was as handsome as ever!! I LOVED IT ALL!!

Can't get enough Mrs. T! Thank you so much! I love that you have ALL her dresses from the convention. I've just been drinking it all in the past few days....wall to wall Obamas....love it. The girls looked sensational tonight as well and our President gave me hope and faith in our future.

I love that the bateau neckline references a dress worn by Barack's mother in one of her lovely photos--shown tonight in the montage prior to the Obama speech.

Is it possible that the First Lady looks younger and prettier than she did four years ago? She's a treasure. And the girls are charming -- the whole family is beautiful. Four more years, please.

The color ruby/garnett is for the season. So delightful, and young. The girls are growing.

Can't believe how much Sasha has changed, all of a sudden she looks so grown up!

Again, I loved this dress because it was interesting and different and unexpected. The plum color is really pretty and the pattern was intricate but not overwhelming. I really think that the A line skirt shape flatters her figure too. And she kept hair, makeup and accessories simple and let the dress do the talking. Another winner!

Beautiful dress and I enjoyed seeing our First Lady on stage again introducing her husband. Such love! Such sincerity! Such a beautiful first family! Looking forward to four more years of fashion greatness.

Gorgeous! Does Laura Smalls have a website or boutique for others to view? Or does anyone know of a website with Michelle Obama inspired pieces? It would be fantastic to have a dress similar to hers. <3

I read that Malia wore H&M, and Sasha wore Anthropologie.

love the dress and esp the Alexis Bittar pin!
Glad to see Mrs O hightlighting yet another designer in Laura Smalls this week.

Love the Laura Smalls dress and the homage to the President's mother as m. benson remarked. All of Laura Smalls designs harken to a delightfully feminine and elegant style. Her website is amazing also. Her mother, Doris de Vega was a teenage model and Billie Holiday was her godmother. laurasmalls.com

Beautiful Dress. Beautiful Woman. Beautiful First Family.

Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 9:07 PM | Unregistered CommenterObserver

The entire family looked like happiness to me. Not just with their clothes, but the way they carried themselves and the obvious love that they have for one another. That picture is a mood elevator if ever I saw one.
Lara Smalls, my hat's off to you. That dress could not have potrayed our Michelle"s style and class any better!
WINNER!
