On the Campaign Trail
Thursday, June 21, 2012 at 9:30 AM
The First Lady hit the campaign trail this week, making stops in Henderson, Nevada and Centennial, Colorado to speak with campaign volunteers. In Nevada, Mrs. O wore a pearl grey cotton poplin dress by Narciso Rodriguez, last seen here. In Colorado, the First Lady turned to a ruffled and layered dot print dress with her signature Alaia belt at the waist. It appears the latter dress is a modified version of this H&M number, with an extra layer added at the skirt.

Isn't the second dress the one she wore with a red belt and yellow shoes for an interview with Matt Lauer? Not sure, but I think it was Target. She looks lovely in both dresses. Whoo Hoo!!!
OOOppppss!....H&M it is...............close though in terms of the cost factor. Still gorgeous!!!!!
I knew what you meant trinisamba ... good eye!
The poplin looks too much like a uniform for someone in service to do much for me. Then again, in a manner of speaking FLOTUS is in service to the American people. Even so, that dress would be a miss on anyone.
I don't believe its the H&M dress, its a different cut altogether. I can't imagine going to the trouble and the cost of all that modification to a $35 dress.
Generally adore Mrs. O's style, but I agree with Philly -- that white Rodriguez dress is just awful. I also thought it looked like a uniform, a poorly fitting one at that. I do like the black dress with polka dots, though. It's airy and feminine, very nice.
First, let me say that I LOVE the new format! Thanks Mrs. T, it's a really good look.
The polka dot H & M dress has a very special place in my heart, a really sweetheart gifted me with one! Modifying or altering two inexpensive dresses to make one is quite practical, IMO. Our Michelle has long legs and arms, I can see where off the rack clothes may not work for her.
I know that I'm in the minority here on the Narciso dress, but I like it. It's a dress that can be embellished with all sorts of accessories to give it a different look. I rather enjoy it as it is......apparently so does FLOTUS.
The blue dress looks like a modified version of an Express dress that I have. It's sleeveless and has the ruffle down the front, and was sold with a chartruse satin tie belt. Only one layer skirt, though, so it would still be modified. It's actually the dress I wore to see Mrs. O speak this spring, so when I saw this picture on the website it was kinda a shock. It's not on their website anymore, so I can't link it. But I would be surprised if it's not the same.
The H&M is cute. The Narcisco Rodriguez, on the other hand, compares unfavorably with the hospital gown I was wearing a couple of months ago.
I agree; toss out that white dress. Polka dots are always cute!
In my opinion the two layered skirt of the polka dot is unflattering, at least from the angle that the photo was taken. I personally like the look better in the pic of the dress with one layer to the skirt. Think the white dress needs a pop from an accessory. Just my opinions.
I agree. Did not like the "hospital gown" and it was not improved when you saw the whole piece. An unusual mis step for the first lady.
Yeah, not feeling the Rodriguez. Too stiff for someone so lively.
Love the second dress, as I am a sucker for dots! That first one, though, is really blah. Mrs. O. looks like a lunch lady.
