Mrs. O Does Push-Ups

For those who missed Ellen on Thursday, this video is a must-watch. Mrs. O and Ellen do push-ups ... and a lot of them! On the fashion front: a Duro Olowu top and Reed Krakoff blazer, both worn previously by the first lady.

Dear Lord,
WHERE is the dignity of the office of the President of the United States and the woman who is called the First Lady?

cute top! and impressive exercise (although they aren't "real" push ups if your nose doesn't come a LOT closer to the ground)

I saw this the next morning on CBS This Morning. Mrs. O was the "best" and she didn't even get winded :>)...you just gotta love this lady!!!. God bless Mrs. Obama, God bless our President, God bless the First Family and God bless America.

Not how I expect to see the First Lady....tacky!

It is inspiring that the first lady practices what she advises regarding health. She may wear beautiful clothes, but I love that she is not afraid to move and live her life in them. In keeping with the fashion focus of this blog, Mrs. Obama consistently selects clothes that allow her to make the most of any given situation. This outfit is no exception.

Michelle Obama is not just the First Lady, she is also a woman who loves to exercise and dance! Stop criticizing her for how you want her to be portrayed.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 3:34 AM | Unregistered CommenterKEA

WHY SHE IS DOING THIS?
A first lady doing pushs up? i think Mrs Obama should think twice before acting. With all respect i have for her , this is just RIDICULOUS.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 7:35 AM | Unregistered Commenterginger

I think it was fun to watch the First Lady do push-ups. Although Ellen's were technically more difficult than Michelle's style of just pumping on her upper arms, the message is to exercise and that is a good message!

Amazing First Lady! So proud of her! "Simply the best . . . . !"

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 8:41 AM | Unregistered CommenterAuntie Mom

Anyone with a mind for fitness and wellness would find this more dignified than anything.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 9:41 AM | Registered CommenterMcKinley

Dear Lord,

This first lady has had a positive effect on the health and lives of children that no first lady has had. Isn't that terrible? Puhleeze.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 9:48 AM | Registered CommenterBevi

Setting an example? You Bet! If Desmond Tutu can do push ups with the first lady, why not Ellen. Role models must live the role to be effective.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 10:52 AM | Unregistered CommenterAlmablanca

This was such a cute segment. You can just see how warm and fun she is. Her critics are crazy or just crazy with jealousy so they don't want to see. It's obvious to anyone who observes with an open mind, our First Lady is first class and a wonderful "Mom in Chief".

This clip was on every news station over here and the response has been very positive indeed. Even people in my office who don't normally comment on such things have said some amazing things about the First Lady and the fact that she walks the walk. Honestly, I can't see anything undignfied about a woman doing press ups on tv. Michelle Obama is seen as a middle aged woman yet she has more strength and stamina than a woman half her age. She has a solid figure and a flat stomach after having two kids. She is an inspiration and is constantly out and about, doing so much good for her country. Only yesterday I heard that the UK Prime MInister and his wife will be making a state visit to Washington next month. It then dawned on me that I have NEVER seen Samantha Cameron doing ANYTHING for British society since her husband was elected. But in spite of that, British people don't say mean and spiteful things about how she chooses to live her life. Some of the negative posters on here need to lighten up.

I actually went to the gym yesterday after seeing this. I still did not do push ups but I am half the FLOTUS' age and wondered why I'm sitting her not exercising. I don't understand what is not dignified about participating fully in a talk show appearance.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 1:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterObserver

Well I think it is marvelous that the First Lady is so fit and so involved in health issues. I can't imagine anyone complaining about her doing pushups on Ellen - that makes her real - She is an awesome
example to everyone.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 1:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterSkerger

I have mixed feelings about Mrs. Obama looking like this and doing this on TV, but I love her anyway. Overall, she is going down as one of our great first ladies.

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 1:36 PM | Unregistered CommenterGloria5

I thought this clip was AWESOME - as others have said - what a role model the First Lady is for youth, for other women, and for Americans in general. You go, Mrs. O! ;)

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 1:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterSylvie

I was inspired! I sent the clip to my personal trainer and told her that this is my goal: 25 consecutive pushups by April 13th, which is my 48th birthday. Go Michelle!

I don't understand people who are criticizing her technique or her dignity. What's undignified about a woman showing her strength and fitness and setting an example for everyone ....? And, so what if they were not perfect form. She did 25. If you can do 26 of the same thing, then maybe you have license to say something ...

Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 3:11 PM | Unregistered Commenterglammie

I agree with some previous posters that such criticisms of Mrs. O are unwarranted. This is exactly what makes her so refreshing as an individual and so unique as a first lady - she's not putting on airs and masking her personality just because she's first lady. Instead she's informing the role of first lady with her gusto and vibrancy. It's why she's such fun to follow and it's why she's such an asset to this administration. I love the Duro Olowu top and think, as always, Mrs. O is a breath of fresh air!

@DLK: The nerve of you, you... (better an ellipsis than to write the unprintable) Doing pushups has absolutely nothing to do with "dignity," in the manner you seem to be suggesting. The first lady is an intelligent, beautiful, healthy/fit, sophisticated and modern woman. An inspiring woman who displays a lot of integrity around the issues she promotes. ...It wasn't as if the knelt on the floor in a ball gown and pumps! She was casually and comfortably dressed and on a talk show that is fun, free-spirited, and physical. (It wasn't Charlie Rose, ma'am. ...No offense to Mr. Rose; I love his show.) ...So, get over your ______ self! And over your repressed and retrograde ideas of what the "dignity of the office" of the first lady (which is really "code" language, as I see it) is, or should be. Mrs. Obama is as gracious and dignified and smart and stylish as any first lady has ever been. Some, including myself, would say, MORE than.

*deep breath*

Thanks for posting this video. It's refreshing to see the Mrs. Obama practicing what she preaches so literally. Inspiring! Even though I've been on the fit/health wagon for almost 20 years and don't need the Let's Move! campaign to get me moving, I have to say that the first lady really motivates me on those mornings when I feel like turning over instead of out of bed. Working out 7 days a week?!?! (And I thought I was doing something by hitting the gym 5 days a week. :-)

Oh! I almost forgot. Love those Olowu shirts. Great patterns. (You women are so lucky!) And as always, I love Ellen's "androgynous style"--for lack of a better term. So hip! So delicious!

Dear Lord,

Help people to see the true beauty, brilliance, and compassion of the President and First Lady. Help those who act out of hate and continue to vote against their own interests. Help them to look pass the color of their skin or their party of politics and to look at their hearts and see that they're working for the good of ALL people, even those that hate. Lord help those people that are so miserable and full of hate that they feel the need to come on a blog devoted to a person they claim to loathe and spew stupid and mean things to try to bring down our morale. But Lord, let them know that no weapons formed against us shall prosper, that YOUR WILL shall be done, and that this beautiful FIRST FAMILY will continue to represent America and help us to become a better nation. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

She looked fabulous and the whole point of the show was to promote fitness. It couldn't have been more appropriate. I think comments to the contrary are unwarrented and, quite frankly, politically motivated.

Anyone who has ever tried to do ten push-ups in a row will find this video very dignified. The pose was excellent and the message came through. She is on a mission to promote healthy life style and nothing speaks louder than setting an example like this.

When I mentioned this video earlier this week I expected a totally different discussion. I thought fashion fans would realise again, fashion is only half of looking good, being in a good shape is the other half (or more). I think Mrs O is the perfect example!

Such anger. You ladies really need to get a life.

Dear Lord, Please answer Nyon's prayers.!!!!

I just love how Mrs. O performed her push ups with such pride and poise (dignity) so yes she was dignified.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 10:26 AM | Unregistered CommenterMrs. P

The "Anger" is based on the inane, jealous, and narrow-minded views of those who can't or won't see that THIS First Lady simple is being herself and is putting her money where here mouth is. The life that this lady promotes does spur THINKING people to ACTION.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 10:47 AM | Unregistered CommenterAdear

I was off work on Thursday and had the opportunity to watch this episode. It was so much fun. I loved Mrs O. We need someone who is a mother and shows such love to be a role model for us all. I am 54 and exercise regularly. Oh and what class to look so good doing pushups. Mrs O has embraced this role and like a true professional she is prepared. She is working out everyday so she can show-up and perform her duties. She is promoting exercise, good nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11:10 AM | Unregistered CommenterJudy

@DLK - how interesting, you were so offended at the First Lady's push up performance and you're comment is the very first on the list.

We're not angry at you, we just have one question. Since you sound like Barbara Bush, do you look like her too? It might explain the jealousy in your "dignity" comment.

As an American, I am extremely proud we have a First Lady who is physically fit and able to encourage others to follow suit.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 1:05 PM | Unregistered Commenterriver rush

The few who are complaining about Mrs. O's push ups are just jealous because they can't (or are too lazy), to do them. Why not be inspired by Mrs. O's example and get to work on your own bods haters? Just sweat out the hate. :-)

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 1:27 PM | Unregistered Commentertruthzone

The video is lovely; anyone who has negative views of the First Lady doing push-ups is simply negative. Maybe a workout routine may help; working out refreshes the mind as well as the physical body.

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 2:07 PM | Registered CommenterSoccerNana

Maybe those push-ups wouldn't meet Marine Corps standards, but they looked pretty "real" to me. In fact, I'm inspired to start trying the full-body instead of the girly knees-up version that I've been sticking with. As far as dignity goes, First Ladies are not what they used to be and thank heaven for that!

Monday, February 6, 2012 at 2:18 PM | Unregistered Commentera MI Mom

I would just like to point out that my prayer was not said out of anger. I really meant it and I am truly confused by people's ugliness towards the First Family. I'm even more confused about feeling the need to troll on websites dedicated to them. I am not a republican fan and I can promise you I have never felt the need to go on a right wing website and say anything about them. They are not worth my precious time.

Anyway, I LOVED Mrs. O outfit. She looked SUPER CUTE and that is a bad blazer. I need to find me one like it. I love when Mrs. O goes on Ellen. They always have a good time. You guys can go to Ellen's website and see even more shocking video of Mrs. O exercising with kids. She did the twist all the way to the floor. OMG, THE HORROR, the FL dropped it low!!! LMAO!! ;-P

Michelle Obama is super duper precious. We need to say a prayer for all the future First Ladies, because she's blazing trail of self-style, dignified flyness.

Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing us with such a wonderful President, First Lady, and First Family. Please continue to guide and protect them.
Amen.

So, I was thinking about not going to the YMCA to work out today. Well, I’m on my way out the door. Thank you Mrs. O for giving me the nudge I needed.

And while sweating it out on the bike (30 minutes) and the elliptical (30 minutes) and later practicing restorative yoga (1 hr); I promise to look as cute as I can in my black yoga pants, my colorful Hawaii tee-shirt, my cute jingly Zumba bracelets, and rocking my ‘fro with a headband.

Peace.

What inspiration. I am so proud to see a for real FLOTUS not dressed in stuffy clothes and looking all stiff.

Racism and hatred will always be with us. The Obamas thrive off the good feelings they receive when they go out, not what is reported by the media or in written print on blogs, magazines, etc. They choose to focus on the positive and so do I. Haters, hate on; I recommend Jill Scott's song Hate on. We just don't care. Michelle is awesome and looks good serving as our FLOTUS, in spite of the haters and naysayers.

Awwww Terri, it sounds like you look SUPER CUTE, Girl!! Do the damn thang :-) I can't say that I was that cute when I went to the track today, but I was rocking my gray and black old navy pull over with my black and gray new balance. Ha, and I was rocking a super fly side pony tail, YEAH BOOOOY!! LMAO!

I LOVE TO SEE OUR FIRST LADY BEING REAL, SHE IS A TRUE INSPIRATION-FORGET ABOUT WHAT THE NAYSAYERS ARE SAYING! THEY WILL SAY ANYTHING TO TAKE A TRULY INSPIRATIONAL COUPLE OFF OF THEIR PEDESTAL. THE OBAMA FAMILY IS A LOVING ONE, DEVOTED, FUN, SUPPORTIVE, COMMITTED AND PROMOTING A GREAT MESSAGE TO FAMILIES. SINCE WHEN WAS THE ABILITY TO DO PUSH-UPS AND INSPIRE OTHERS TO EXERCISE & BE FIT AN UNDIGNIFIED THING??? I GUESS THOSE SIMPLE-MINDED IGNORAMUSES WHO COMMENTED AGAINST THIS IMAGE OF OUR FIRST LADY PREFER THEIR FIRST LADIES TO BE JUST AS SEDENTARY AND UNINSPIRING AS THEY ARE, SITTING HOME ON THE COUCH VOICELESS AND INSIGNIFICANT, STANDING BEHIND-NOT BESIDE- THEIR HUSBANDS LIKE SUBSERVIENT MANNEQUINS. NEITHER OF THE BUSH WIVES, OR NANCY REAGAN FOR THAT MATTER WERE A SYMBOL OF BEAUTY, STRENGTH OR INSPIRATION IN MY HOME. GO MICHELLE OBAMA!!! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, GRACEFUL & ADMIRED, KEEP SHOWING US WHAT A REAL WOMAN IS SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT!!!

hehehe....and me in my camouflage shorts and super cute tee with headband of course doing my Billy's Bootcamp,....hoorah for the ladies who take the time to work out....Booyah :-)
On a serious note though, exercise relaxes and keeps one cool, calm and collected ( hello POTUS and FLOTUS ), so those who projected their faux anger & disappointment at the FLOTUS might want to look inward and work out more, you know, deal with your own body issues and leave FLOTUS alone.........just saying.

Oh yeah does anyone know the designer of themighty fine jeans our Michelle wears?

Dear Bobbity Boo and the Tooth Fairy,

Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving the world a First Lady with strength of character and integrity.

I am so relieved to see the wife of a world leader who knows that being herself is way more important than putting on a fake persona. In order to perpetuate the lie that a woman's place is supporting "her man". Vom. It.

Putting on a pastel two piece suit, mid heels and a smile, saying nothing to upset anyone or anything, and looking like one had a personality bypass is NOT the definition of dignity. Dignity is having character, determination, elegance, intelligence, style, a voice worth listening to and grace.

Give me Michelle Obama doing press ups on national TV and being funny, any day.

Death to the Stepford political wife/bimbette.

Amen to THAT.
