Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 9:20 PM
The 2012 Kennedy Center Honors are being held this evening, and for the occasion, the first lady has chosen a Michael Kors gold lamé chiffon encrusted shoulder gown from the designer's Resort 2013 collection paired with earrings by Moritz Glik. Can you say gorgeous?!

Gorgeous and beauty were her name!!! I am in love with this gown! It's becoming increasingly apparent that FLOTUS trust Kors
with her biggest moments. Kudos. Soon as I saw it, I had to know who it was by and was so pleasantly surprised it was a Kors original. Mrs. O has brought sexy back to American designers. They owe her a continued closet full of gratitude.
Mrs. T, YES I CAN!!! GORGEOUS!!!!!
Michelle has been rocking Michael Kors lately.
Gorgeous choice!! I love it.
This dress flatters, enhances, flounces, and flows, and seems so comfortable on our First Lady. It was meant for her. Such a lovely and festive gown to wear to this occasion.
OMG - We're off to a great start -- of our four more years :) I'm going to have to see some video of this stunning gown. It's interesting how a waistband like this is flattering on Mrs. O. but the wide belts she wears are not.
LOVE IT! I love Michael Kors, and I love Michelle Obama! This is the most gorgeous gown she has ever worn! I'd say The Tom Ford would be second! The Jeweled encrusted neckline seems to frame her hair, and face! And Gold! What a perfect color for this "Golden Lady"! I never use this word, but she looks absolutely Fierce!!! With the amount of Kors she wears, I hope she wears him to the Inagural Ball!
Yes!!! Michelle is bringing the next four years in with a Big Bang. Beautiful!!
Lovely but not on my favorites list. Mrs. T please remember to separate the gowns from her other outfits when we do our annual poll. I can't wait. So happy for another four years even if she recycles.
I agree with all the praise for the dress and with Viviene's comment that this waistband flatters when most belts don't. I would have been satisfied if this were the Inaugural Ball gown!
Wow! She is back in the saddle again! This is one of my all time favorites. Not quite THE favorite, but darn close. It fits so beautifully, with a simple but very elegant design. And I had the same thought about the belt/waistband issue when I first looked at it.
This is just plain gorgeous and beautiful
Love, love, LOVE this gown!! Here is a view of Mrs. Obama is this gown from the back. h/t The Obama Diary
GORGEOUS!
I've often found that the first Lady never disappoints with her evening wear - never. This dress is gorgeous. I can imagine how the President gasped with shock and pride when he saw what his wife was wearing tonight. I honestly cannot wait to see what she will wear to the inauguration.
This dress brings out all her best features and I'm with Vivienne - the waistband is way more flattering than some of her wide belts.

I'm in awe once again. And fiercely proud of our first couple....unmatched on the world stage!
SO gorgeous!
We continue to gasp when this incredible woman does it again and again! Gold has a way of making brown skin glow, and our First Lady is indeed glowing in this awesome gown! FLOTUS knows how to make jaws drop with stunning choices, and once again, she floors us with her beauty, grace, and her dead on fashion sense!
Beautiful choice. Michael Kors has never done her wrong, and I like that
she his leaning on one american designer that knows what is flattering for her body. Like Mrs K who relied on Oleg Cassini for most of her clothing during her short time in as First Lady he is perfecting her wonderful style.

Gorgeous!!!
A little too shiny to my liking. I think it would have looked better in a matte finish.
What is it encrusted with, shells? It's hard to tell.
Simply gorgeous! Cant wait until the inauguration! I hope she wears Naeem Khan!
It's like the countdown to the Inauguration dress! Just FABULOUS!!!!
I can say "gorgeous!"
And gorgeous she is!

Absolutely wonderful!! They are a lovely couple with a great dress sense.
Wow. Totally inspires me to rethink my usual holiday look.
I wish I had watched the event and been able to admire this lovely gown. So far I've only found a few video clips where I can see this gorgeous gown. Please click here to see this short You Tube video. At the 7 seconds mark and again at the 31 second mark you get a glimpse of how that magnificent jeweled top sparkles!
@Vivienne thanks for sharing the video! The dress looks even better in the video...Fabulous details. Micheal Kors MUST be smiling! You GLOW First Lady.
I can't wait to see what she wears during their 20 days in Hawaii. I hope we get a preview of summer 2013 fashion.I am sooooo jealous!
Vivienne, it will be broadcast on CBS on December 28 or thereabouts.
Vivienne, you did not miss the show. It comes on Dec. 26th on CBS. I think @ 9/10 EST, but you might want to check the times.
The dress is fab! I'm surprised no one commented on her hair. The up do looks good and really allows the neckline of the dress to shine! You go, Michelle Obama!
The updo is beautiful! Mrs. O looks like a fairy queen. Gorgeous. On another note, the iPhone shot that Meryl Streep took of Mrs. Clinton and herself is a dream come true.
Stunning! Gorgeous! The FLOTUS is a true beauty.
This frock is so simplistic and American. Kors is always a go-to designer, however, my money for Mrs. O's inagural gown is with Vera Wang or Marchesa. Wang because who can forget that delicious blue gown that Mrs. O wore a few months ago. Marchesa, because of the support from Bob Weinstein whose wife is the co-designer for the company. Mrs T, you should have some type of contest about who will design the inauguration outfits.
Thanks, Nyon! I forgot they usually tape these things for later viewing. I don't usually watch it and I should probably be ashamed of myself for admitting that I'll watch (or record it) this year just for the chance to see Mrs. O. in this incredible gown!
Mrs. O looked absolutely stunning in this beautiful Michael Kors creation!
Really beautiful on her and unique. I love her in the dark gold and the fit is very flattering. Charming!
GORGEOUS!!!
Gorgeous always! I really like this dress on her--such a pretty fabric and neckline. Oh to see them both in person!
This dress is pretty, however I remember over three years ago when she wore another gold gown in Norway I think to try to get the Olympics in Chicago.. She looked stunning in that gown!
There goes our Michelle again.....go ahead and stun us.....gorgeous! I love this gown ....she wears it so well.
Absolutely Stunning!!! I'm in awe of our First Lady. I am officially a Michelle Obama ADDICT.
Who can say lovely a thousand times? Only Michelle Obama inspires that when she dresses up for a party. Great to see her and her favourite man out together. They make a stunning couple.
Wow! What a gorgeous color on her. Makes me wonder what she will wear at the 2nd Inaugural ball?
Black and Gold! Just like our beloved New Orleans Saints. (We're down, but we're not out--yet. Who Dat!) Love the look! All that's missing on this American Queen is the tiara and the wand--to make certain "*&^%$#!!" disappear! ;-)
Mom in Chief is looking gorgeous!!! i would have loved to see some curls on her hair though. my all time best evening wear look will always be the one-shouldered Cobalt blue dress by Peter Soronen, that she wore, when they hosted former Mexican President Felipe Calderon. The curls on her hair complemented the dress on that day. looking forward to the Inauguration gown!!
