AARP The Magazine
First Lady Mrs. O livens up the September/October 2011 cover of AARP The Magazine wearing a L'Wren Scott burgundy jacquard dress. Lovely!
In the feature story, which profiles Joining Forces, Mrs. Obama is asked if she has a future in politics. And her response?
“The answer is N-O. Period, dot. ... I think one reason Jill [Biden] and I are comfortable and happy is that we’re doing what speaks to us. And what I’ve learned as a woman growing up, getting older, is you’ve got to know who you are. And a politician — it’s never been who I was or wanted to be.”
The full AARP story can be found here.

the comments on the AARP article are really mean...smh.
i think mrs. o looks really nice on that cover.
If you're referring to the comments on The Hill about the article, then pay that site's comments no attention. Those are paid trolls.
Well, like Mrs. O says she knows who she is, so those mean comments will bounce back to the haters. She looks fab and represents our great country well. Obama 2012!
Is it me or has her hairline been retouched? At times these magazines can get heavy handed with the photoshop....
Other than that good to see her wonderful smile!
I'm glad I clicked back here to see these comments, because the Hill's commenters were terrible. I like this color on her (I like just about every color on her, lol) and I think the look fits the publication well.
Truly lovely lady> Lovely dress
This is a beautiful dress in a great color. Mrs. O's hair and makeup look really good. The photographer should have let Mrs. O. focus her eyes upward a tad before he snapped the picture.
Bloody gorgeous as we say over here and although I haven't always loved much of L'Wren Scott's designs I truly love this wine coloured frock. I love Michelle Obama too. She's a true lady. The fact that she still manages to care, look good and smile whilst all around, the President is being pulled every which way, is testatment to her power as a woman,
Well said Jestina.
The dress is lovely; however, I must agree with Adear; the photo-shopping is awful; they even "aged" Mrs. O's lovely hands.
Ladies, please do not let the comments from the "paid trolls" distract you. If you must, read the whole article for yourself and you will see how these two professional women respect and love this country, the position that God has graciously placed them in and appreciate the men who they are married to for life. Needless to say, they respect each other in sisterhood and work very well together.
I urge you after hearing Our President's educational speech last night how he calmly and passionatley informed We, the People of what is really going on in Washington, when you leave this blog make sure you write, call, email, tweet, facebook your elected officials and let them know that we need them to do the jobs that we elected them to do and stop playing and toying with our country. We are disgusted and ashamed of what they are doing. Yes, this is a fashion blog for Our First Lady, but if we sit here and do nothing, we will not have this blog in 2012.
And while you are at it, please let them know that we intend to come to this blog for the next (4) years to watch OUR FIRST LADY, shine, glow, wow and awe us with her styles of dressing with or without them. So they had better MAN UP and get the job done. Just because OUR FIRST LADY says, N-O, Period, dot, now. God is still incontrol and IT IS NOT OVER UNTIL WE WIN. My spiritual sisters will understand this immediately.
So take heart and let the magazines photo-shop all they want, we know this woman's heart and that's what counts, the inside not the outside. She has the complete package!
@ LDS,
AMEN! and AMEN! I couldn't have said it any better myself, your comments were on point and to the point. I agree totally. Yes, this is a fashion blog, but we cannot allow ourselves to be oblivious to what's going on around us. We are living in some very serious and dangerous times as the President outlined last night, so we have to remain focused and pay attention to what's going on in Washington and take action. The First and Second Ladies will continue to stay focused and do their jobs but it's a pity Congress isn't doing theirs. So while some on this blog may focus on whether a picture is photo-shopped or not, I hope they are equally as dilligent in contacting their reps in Congress and calling them out for not doing their jobs! Folks, this is serious, it's time to put aside childish things and do our jobs as informed citizens.
Mrs. Obama looks wonderful. Such a radiant smile. The fabric of the dress is exquisite and the color is outstanding on her. Take a look at The Obama Diary website to see a picture of Mrs. O and Dr. Biden that accompanies the AARP interview. The dresses they are wearing are fabulous. Any ideas on the green dress Mrs. O is wearing?
When will editors of magazines realize that people are real, and should look that way on their covers. I hate the obvious photoshopping of her hairline, as if there's something askew with it the way that it is. I know the objective is to have the person appear "flawless", but that's unattainable at best. It sends a message that, "we've corrected your shortcoming to make you more appealing". So many people in the public eye have complained about it. I know some in Hollywood highly appreciate it, but then you see them in person or on a television program and they are hardly recognizable.
Anyway, I love this cranberry color, it looks good on any skin tone. Our Michelle knows what works for her and apparently so does L'wren Scott. I'll read the article later.
What LDS said!
I hate it when they photoshop her hairline because it makes it look like she has one of those ugly lace fronts on. Anyway, I still love the pic and the color of the dress. The interview with her and Dr. Biden is very good and cute. There is a pic of Dr. Biden and Mrs. O. Dr. B is looking fantastic in a purple dress(and you know she is showing her knees, LOL, you go girl!) and Mrs. O looks like she has mixed and matched the skirt she wore in India with a top that she wore to some White House event. Here is the pic and there is a link to the full interview:

Great job Mrs. O
I was on another site just now and read a comment from someone who talked about how the First Lady "hates America" and other vile comments. When I look at that lovely women who embodies all that is good in this country--I just want to weep for her. The ignorance of people who just don't want to know the truth of who this women is, and what she represents, is appalling. While we here talk about her clothing, we also talk about her wonderful spirit and her loving nature. Here is what I do know, she will go down in history as one of our greatest First Ladies.
Lovely indeed, this wine color looks great on her.
@auni if not the Greatest
There is something about this image that bothers me and it is probably the "hairline" and ackward pose. I also don't like when magazine covers have lots going on and this cover is way too busy.
But her smile always soothes me.
Call John Boehner and tell him, WE CAN'T AFFORD TO LET POLITICS HOLD OUR ECONOMY HOSTATE. IT'S TIME TO PUT IDEOLOGICAL DEMAND ASIDE AND AGREE TO A BALANCE APPOACH......NOW! 202-225-0600.
I posted yesterday and either it was removed or the moderator chose not to post it. I voiced my concern this was turning into a politcal blog, which is not why I come here. I do not care for Mrs Obama nor her husband, but I have ALWAYS followed the fashions of our first ladies. I see my suspicions are correct as LDS seems to be able to post her political views uncensored. And you people accuse the right of trying to shut people up. LOL...
Well, Ytrapaet Jane, you got your posting. Now, on to FLOTUS. She is absolutely beautiful and very photogenic-photoshopped or not. OBAMA 2012!
I heard on the news this morning that the Lan'comme ad featuring Julia Roberts and a top model whose name escapes me, is banned in the UK because of the photoshopped pics.
Sorry for the misspells above.
@ytrapaet jane: Your suspicions were wrong. (LOL) Your post is here and I just don't understand for the life of me, if you do not like someone, why would you care about their fashion? Whether your posts were pro or con, I am sure they were posted, as I consider this post to be fair and impartial. This is what democracy iis all about.....compromise.
There were others who agreed with my political views and I am sure others do not. But it just seems to me it was and is the right thing to do. We cannot sit idly by and pretend nothing is happening and go with the flow (so to speak). Our First Lady and Second Lady are doing a marvelous job representing this country. And they look damn good doing it!
There are people here who honestly care, respect and love Our First Lady and Our President. There are other blogs where people who share your feelings can go and still view Our First Lady's fashion style. By all means, I am not implying that you leave. If you chose to stay, there will be much more adoration in the next four years. YES, WE CAN DO MORE TOGETHER.....AGAIN!
Our President needs our help and I feel this is one way of answering the call. The urgency is that if we do not reach out to one another here and stay informed, there will be no blog in 2012 to come to. So surely you can understand, when you love and care for someone.....you do whatever you can to help.
Well Thanks for telling us that, teaparty jane. NOT!!! Life must really be boring to follow someone you don't care for. I never take a second look at failin palin.
Good job, Nyon!!!
There's a third option, Jane. A few times when I've attempted to post in the past, the post hasn't appeared but instead of assuming I was being censored, I figured it was a technical error or that I forgot to verify the post. Not everything is a conspiracy.
I think that the magazine has distracted from the informative interview by what they have done to her hairline, hairstyle and face on the cover. They are in the business of selling magazines but I don't agree with their portrayal of Mrs Obama; she doesn't look natural!
My life is quite lively Nyon, but thanks for caring. And Groovy- do you have a mind of your own or do you just clap like a seal when someone says something you think is clever?
I often feel like clapping when I read what Nyon writes.
First of all, watch your mouth!! Don't disrespect Groovy because she didn't say a word to you. Don't try to act like you are a victim because you're the one came on here saying silly ish. As the saying goes, don't start none and it won't be none. Secondly, I could give two you know whats about your life. You are and forever will be irrelevant to me. I just thought I would point out how idiotic it is to follow a person that you don't even like. But hey if that's what floats your boat. Just don't ever think it's ok for you to come on here making underhanded comments about Mrs. O, Mrs. T, and any of my fellow posters.
I repeat my above comment(s).
I feel that LDS's comment is inappropriate and has nothing to do
with the fashion of Mrs. O. It's not why I come to this blog.
Just sayin'....... Peace.
Same goes to ytrapaet jane. Stop trolling on this blog, please.
Teaparty Jane,
If you do not care for Mrs Obama, why do you post here?
I've been lurking for a while and finally decided to break my silence on this one. Please don't feed the trolls. This is a lovely community, and I really hope that it continues in that vein. If I didn't like Mrs. O, then I wouldn't be here, and I certainly wouldn't expect to dictate what someone else should do on their blog. If you don't like it, then go start your own blog where you can set the rules.
Peace to you Lisa H, also. As I stated before there will be no fashion blog if we do not step up to the plate and DO SOMETHING! I
f you can comfortably sit by at your computer desk and critque fashion, while our country is being held hostage, that is your choice. But this blog is dedicated to Our First Lady whose husband is THE ONLY ADULT AT THE TABLE, and why would we not support him as we support her? They are ONE! Our Commander-In-Chief asked us to do our part. I just heeded the call. Fashion takes a back seat to SS checks and Veterans checks being delivered next week. This is serious, folks!
I think the magazine artist did a poor job on Mrs. O. She appears to be more attrractive than this.
However, the dress color looks very nice for a Fall issue.
Come on, ladies, let's just get along and admire the style of Mrs. O!
@ ytrapaet jane,
You certainly said a mouthfull with your comment, "I do not care for Mrs. Obama nor her husband but I have ALWAYS followed the fashion of our first ladies". But I find your comment hypocritical and disingenous because as you said since you "do not care for Mrs. Obama", why are you taking such interest in her fashion? Usually most people who do not care for others, don't take a keen interest what they do, and definitely won't take the time to follow that person's comings and goings in a blog like you're doing. It seems to me your actions borders on stalking, yes, internet stalking. Don't you have other fashion mavens in tea-party-land you can follow at will and leave Mrs. Obama alone? More likely I think you came on this blog to stir up trouble. You people can't leave well alone can you? I guess the devil made you do it because you've come here to mess up the usual good vibe we have here, and to tell you the truth, you're NOT WELCOMED! Why don't you take a flying leap over to your quitter, half term governor from Wassila's blog. I know you will find some kindred spirits there. SICK, SICK, SICK!!!!
The photoshopping of this cover is INTENSE. It makes Michelle Obama look like another person who just resembles Michelle Obama. Magazines really have to relax with that.
Hi All. If my memory serves correctly, Mrs. T. established chat rooms quite a while ago so that posters who wished to bring up political issues, lifestyle issues, or other topics that were not directly linked to the main fashion thread could voice their opinions and provide information. LDS, you can create a chat room and that would be a great place to post information related to the current debt ceiling debate.
@Tea Party Jane - people like you generally don't last on this blog very long. People get sick of your divisive stance and either call you out or ignore you and your political agenda. Please don't start picking on Nyon and Groovy, who have been valuable and contributing members of this community long before your Tea Party came about. So maybe you should go away if that's what you plan on doing here.
"I posted yesterday and either it was removed or the moderator chose not to post it."
Not 'the moderator'. The person whose blog this is. The person who has the right to remove any posts that don't fit here, in her view. Of course, she might be busy and hasn't had the chance to approve it. Or she thought it was stupid. My money would be on the latter. I don't know, call it a hunch.
"I voiced my concern this was turning into a politcal blog, which is not why I come here."
a) none of your business what this blog is turning into (see above)
b) if you don't like it, go to a hater blog
c) this has always been, is, always will be a fashion blog
d) if people have an opinion that is positive, I don't see why they can't say nice things. Although technically they ought to be in the members section.
"I do not care for Mrs Obama nor her husband"
That came out of leftfield. Really. I'm shocked.
"but I have ALWAYS followed the fashions of our first ladies."
ALWAYS? Huh. How come you haven't been here for the last four years?
"I see my suspicions are correct as LDS seems to be able to post her political views uncensored."
Well, as I see it, LDS posted her views in quite a positive manner, whereas you are just wandering in and criticising Mrs Obama and all of us because you either don't know any better, or don't have any manners, or are a Republican. Which would give *me* 3 reasons to delete anything you might say.
"And you people accuse the right of trying to shut people up."
Once more, in English?
When we watch the First Lady and her interaction with her kids, we see a dedicated, hands on mother. When we see her with her husband we see a women who loves, respects, and teases her man. When we see her working on issues that interest her, we see military families and and healthy living as two top priorities. When we see her with the public, we see interaction, caring, and interest. Now, if a person "doesn't care" for her--I really wonder what sort of women would be cared about? What values would elict "caring"? What's important, what matters? To dislike a women who puts forth the best in both Christian and American values is strange--strange and weird.
@Bevi: Thank you.
I was not aware of the chat rooms that were established by Mrs. T. and I will definitely take your advice into consideration. I am very busy these days and will probably get even busier up and through 2012.
I come here to relax, wind down and marvel at the fashions worn by Our First Lady and I am inspired. @ Posh Tater: Thank you for being respectful and fair. I value your honest judgment.
Have a nice weekend everyone, inspite of. Back to the trenches. Peace.

Wow, what in the world did they do to Mrs. O's hairline? This AARP cover makes it look like she is wearing either a bad wig or thin headband!! I noticed it immediately.
Greetings Friends!
Check out this cute pic of the First Couple...
http://theobamadiary.com/2011/07/24/50-4/
Peace
No one and/or no thing can ever please everyone. However, out of respect for one great lady (Mrs. T.) who has devoted this blog to the fashion of another great lady (Mrs. O.) I hope that we can all strive to maintain a state of decorum here.
A comment of mine went to la-la land, so I'll try again.
The photo shopping on this AARP cpver photo of naturally beautiful Mrs. O is ridiculous. It makes her hairline look like she is wearing a bad wig or a fuzzy thin headband. Uggh. I do like the color and the fabric of the dress. I have always liked brocade. I also like the cut (from what I can see of it...)
I've been away at a wedding for three days and haven't been able to moderate the discussion above. There's not much to add, but I would ask that, as always, we please keep the commentary respectful. Do use the chat room for discussion that doesn't relate to the post. And, for reference, if a comment does not appear, it's much more likely that it's the result of a technical issue rather than censorship. Thank you! xx Mrs. T
