Sunday in Concord

Photo by Jim Cole / AP Images

First Lady Mrs. O and Mrs. Biden traveled to Concord, New Hampshire today to attend a Joining Forces cookout for military service members and their families. For the event, the First Lady wore a red and white (with flecks of light blue) window pane print dress paired with a thin red belt at the waist. Details on the designer to follow.

Hope everyone is having a splendid and restful weekend!

Update: Mrs. O wears a ASOS Midi Dress in Check Print, seen here. Thanks to reader "sparkle_ang" for the spot!

So gorgeous, so young, so fresh - amazing vitality. Just a great example of someone in the prime of her life: integrity, brilliance, service, beauty. LOVE to Mrs. O.

From an AP article in the Concord newspaper:

Both Dienes and his wife said it was an honor and a thrill to meet Mrs. Obama. Unity
received a big hug from the First Lady.

"She was just a real person. She just seems like a mom that you can relate to," she said.

It looks like it is this ASOS dress - yay for the President's wife wearing a dress that is $86.20!

I just bought the dress online. £50.00 for a beautiful summer dress that can be worn on the beach or to work with a cardi is way too much of a bargain to pass up.

I have to say, the First Lady has really turned me on to the ASOS brand. I hope to do some shopping there in the future.

The masterclass on how to wear summer dresses with elan and style continues!

Monday, July 25, 2011 at 12:10 PM | Registered CommenterEnglish Observer

This is one of the best summer dresses so far this year.

The pattern is modern and cool. The dress is tailored perfectly for our First Lady.

I just bought one too. :) First time I've seen a dress that Mrs. O. has worn that wasn't sold out, or too expensive, or not available in my size!

I love the shade of red that's in the dress.

I have been wearing a lot of skirts this summer but Mrs. O has inspired me to add a few dresses to my wardrobe. I like the structure of her summer dresses.

Way to go, Jestina & Soccer Nana! You two will have a dress that soon will be coveted by many due to being sold out. You know the power of FLOTUS! I bet no one gave that dress a second look til now. I can honestly say that I did not. There's a couple of things on ASOS that I like, maybe some retail therapy will be in order tonight.
This is a classsic summer dress. I think picking up on the blue flecks would be a good idea, also. I like how she kept it simple and even played it safe with a red belt. That's our Michelle!

Hey guys, post back and let us know what you like about your dresses when they arrive....we'd love to hear from you!

Oops, I meant Jestina & Sootica. Anyone else going to order this dress? If so, let us know.

Lovely summer dress. When I looked at it up close, I had to order it too.

"Mrs" Biden is more correctly referred to as Dr. Biden.

I've never seen her referred to here as anything else Elizabeth, and I'm sure we can all forgive a momentary one-off lapse.

Pretty dress!

The collective media, including the New York Times, frequently refer to the vice president's wife as Mrs. Biden. Until now, I have almost always referred to Jill Biden as "Dr. Biden," per the title listed on Whitehouse.gov. However, I do believe outside of an academic setting, either title is considered acceptable. Really I'm just clarifying that it wasn't an oversight on my part, but a considered choice.

I just checked ASOS and guess what, all size 12 and 14 are gone! This is going to sell out for sure! I really like this dress but did not order it. I'm afraid that the window pane print will overwhelm me because I'm short. But I'm anxious to hear from you all that did order it. How about starting or adding to the thread in the chat room? That will be fun!

Oh, a hearty WELCOME BACK to Posh Tater and Jerseygirl! We've missed you guys!

There was something about this dress I did not quite like when I first saw it. After I thought and looked and looked I realize it's the neckline. It is cut so close to the neck that it looks stifling. Am I the only one?

Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 9:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterObserver

@ Observer .... really "Stifling"? ... I think you may be the only one.

@ Mrs. T .... perfect response to the "Mrs./Dr./Jill Biden thing" thanks.

@ Soccer Nana ... that red is sweet !

Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 12:48 PM | Unregistered Commenterriver rush

@Observer: I agree with you that the dress looks stiffing. I am not sure if it is the fabric or the cut.

Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 9:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterAnar

ok. thanks. i am talking about by the neckline.i think it is the way the neckline is cut, it falls really high up. people who buy the dress can let us know how their purchases are.

Mrs T is correct regarding the "Dr. Biden" discussion.

I just got this dress. It is a gorgeous dress and I couldn't pass up the price tag! Might have it hemmed because I'm not as tall as the First Lady, but still love it.

Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:53 AM | Unregistered CommenterARose

I got the dress on Friday too. It is beautiful. I cannot wait to wear it. I love the length.

What an inspiration our First Lady is! Love the dress on Mrs.O. Bought it for myself. Wore it to a picnic and to work too!

Wow, great to see the first lady rocking ASOS dress. Shows how down to earth she is. I guess this is the second time i see pictures of her wearing ASOS pieces. Encouraging. Means you don't have to put on expensive clothes to look elegant and fashionale :)
