Preview: Obamas on Oprah
Photos by Paul Beaty and Charles Dharapak / AP Photos
The Obamas were back in their hometown of Chicago today to tape an episode of Oprah, which will air Monday. It was day of vibrant color for the First Lady, who traveled in a floral Jean Paul Gaultier top, paired with navy trousers and a canary yellow trench.
For the episode taping, Mrs. O changed into a mixed print dress, paired with her signature kitten heels, which punctuated the ensemble with a pop of orange-red color. Oprah, herself, seemed to take a style cue from Mrs. O, wearing a pin at the collar of her dress.
No details from the interview have been released -- we'll just have to tune in Monday!
Update: Mrs. O wears a Rachel Roy trench coat. For the Oprah appearance, Mrs. O wears a multi print silk placket dress by Duro Olowu.

The dress is Duro Olowu Spring '10! Such an exciting choice! http://shopliquorice.blogspot.com/2011/04/who-wore-what-michelle-obama-wears-duro.html
Radiantly beautiful!!!
They all look great. Mrs Obama looks sharp and feminine and Oprah looks pretty also.
The Obamas look great! God bless America! I can't wait too watch this episode of Oprah.
Delightful, Delovely! - Her color choices are fearless! Everyone looks Fabulous!
Thank to Ms O, Ms T, and Kemi to make me know Duro Olowu !
It's not the first time Ms O honor this stylist, but it seems it's the first time his name is pronounced !
I love his work and hope see him again on M. O !
I'd love to talk about how lovely she looks but my heart is so broken tonight after the happenings of yesterday. My biracial little girl with her seriously emerald green eyes and even more serious red kinky hair, pointed at the television as Our President spoke this morning and for the first time said O-ba-ma, as clear as day. I wept for him, for my baby, for my husband and for the country he is serving so bravely.
She looks beautiful! Can't wait to hear the interview.
LOVE her hair like this. Great outfits.
One teeny snippet has been released: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/04/27/obama-on-oprah-video_n_854459.html
MRS OBAMA LOOKED GREAT LOVE HER ORANGE SHOES HER TOP IS NICE TO WITH PANTS AND A YELLOW LONG COAT SHE REALLY DIDNT NEED THE COAT IT WAS NICE THERE
Dasie:
So, what is the point of your post?
P.S. Michelle loves lovely! The colors of her dress really become her.
I love everything that Mrs. O wore yesterday. Man, the "power & influence" that was in that studio yesterday. WoW!! The President, FLOTUS and Opes! Everyone looked great and appears genuinely comfortable with themselves and each other. FLOTUS' travel outfit is really sharp. Her outfit for the taping is fabulous. That red-orange really works for her! I am so proud of all of them.
Salongirl - The point Dasie is trying to make is perhaps linked to the current rantings of one Mr. Trump and the "Birthers" that can be deemed racially driven towards the President.
The First Lady looks so lovely. I adore the dress.
Lovely!
@ dasie - I get the point of your post and appreciate you sharing. God Bless.
BTW - Mrs. O looks lovely and I especially like the way she looks in the video of their appearance on Oprah. Very bright and bold look. Our president looks great too, in his striped tie. I've been noticing a few new ties from him.
@dasie be encouraged! Kiss your daughter and know that there are many people who have NOT fallen into the "birther abyss"
Get it right: It was Hillary Clinton's supporters who stoked the birther issue during the 2008 campaign.
What's going on Mrs T? Posts with new pics used to be up instantly before. Now there's a lag. :-(
Sailorsgirl, that really was uncalled for.
Dasie, I understand exactly what you mean. It was a hard day for many of us. I wore my Obama shirt in honor of him yesterday. We've come so far and yet have so far to go. I'm sure it was a hard day for Mrs. O too. She probably had many choice words for those treating her husband so foolishly, but had to bite her tongue. All we can do is take a cue from the Obamas and prove the bigots wrong through our actions and who we are as people. Stay Strong!
Mrs. O looked beautiful yesterday and so did her best accessory, her husband. It is bring your son or daughter to work day. There are beautiful pics of Mrs. O on the obamadiary.
@ Daisie, be encouraged; continue to embrace your daughter with love and when she is old enough to understand teach her this quote from Eleonor Roosevelt: "No one can make you feel inferior without your permission." Teach her like I taught my sons, don't give anyone permission to make you feel inferior.
@ Iva and Nyon, loved your posts.
Love, love, love the "my" First Family :0)
Sailorgirl, either you're uninformed, delibrately obtuse, or has been living in a fog for pass several weeks (if not years) to have missed the significance of what took place yesterday at the White House, when the President, acting like "The Only Adult in the Room", released his original certificate of birth and used the occasion to chastise the media for being complicit in the birther and racist nonesense being spewed by Donald "the Chump" Trump. So I truly understand where Dasie is coming from, and instead of being simpathetic to her comments, you demonstrated your supreme ignorance. Yes, this site deals with Mrs. O's fashion choices, but it also deals with how the First Lady and her family live their lives at the center of incessant media scrutiny. So the point of Dasie's comments from my perspective is to shine a light on the unrelenting bigotry and racism that still plague this country even in the Age of Obama.
@ Dasie, live long and strong! Don't allow these swamp-dwellers to steal your thunder and your child's optimism. Like I've always said, I take my cues from The Obamas...this is a teacheable moment, and we all should be taking notes.
I absolutely love the Rachel Roy coat. Rachel tweeted last week that she went to the White House, so she must have dropped off some clothes while she was there. Also, I am not sure about the dress she wore on "Oprah" it looks a little busy, maybe I have to see her standing in the dress to see if I like it.
That Oprah picture is dynamic. All three of those people in that picture resemble me, and it makes me feel good to see all that power in one picture. Also, I think many people should not feel sad for POTUS because he showed his birth certificate yesterday. He is a black man and him and FLOTUS have grown up throughout their lives having to do "extra," so they are not shocked about the treatment they receive.
Both the Obamas continue to be models of restraint, intelligence and maturity. Oh yes, and of impeccable tastes in fashion as well. I'm so proud of our wonderful First Family; too bad some self-styled "Patriots" are so blinded by fear that they can't appreciate this wonderful All American family.
This makes me, a proud Chicagoan, even PROUDER! I love that the First Family is keeping their ties in the Windy City close knit. Beautiful shot of them on O's couch. They ALL look marvelous. I really think part of it is the lighting in O's studio. I've been inside there before, and everyone looks so damn good sitting on the stage and in the audience. Brilliant lighting crew O has! LOL
Dasie (and Nyon):
I am truly and sincerely sorry if my question (to Dasie) was deemed offensive and/or hurtful. I was just feeling weary after all the "silliness" that has been in the media concerning President Obama and I just didn't want to come to what I consider to be a fun and friendly "fashion blog" and read more of what I interpreted to be "politically-tinged."
Again, I'm VERY sorry if I came across as insensitive. Please forgive me.
Thank you!
@ sailorsgirl - Good on you. I feel you about trying to keep our little fashion blog fun and friendly, but sometimes "real life" is too real for some to ignore, and we all just have to be as sensitive as we can when that happens. Again, that was really cool of you to apologize.
Iva:
I appreciate the "gentle reminder" to be sensitive to "real life" issues and their impact on others. I promise to try and do better. Thank you!
mszonian524:
Yes, I do have (periodically) Foot-In-Mouth Disease. However, anyone who truly knows me knows that I am neither "delibrately (sic) obtuse" nor am I a "swamp-dweller." I also don't suffer from "supreme ignorance."
I made a mistake.
I'm sorry.
Sailorsgirl, it's all good. Like I said, we were all on edge from this incident. I'm sorry for interpreting your comment wrong. We should all remeber that we can't always judge someone's tone from their words alone. I have read plenty of your comments, so I was shocked, but I also should have known that you wouldn't be that insensitive. I will ask next time before I jump to conclusions, but for some people, I'm going HAM everytime I see a ridiculous comment, LOL! I accept your apology, but I really don't deserve one. I'm glad you apologized to Dasie because she does deserve it. That was very gracious of you and I hope you accept my apology.
Peace and Love
I am so proud of OUR First Family and I am equally proud of the posters here. This is what Love means to me. We can all agree to disagree, but in the end RESPECT each other. I am so grateful to be alive this morning, breathing and know that there are human beings who realize that as humans we do and will make mistakes. But have the compassion to ask for forgivness and accept it. This First Family brings out the best of us who appreciate this time in history and the worse of those who don't. We will pray for them as we pray for Our First Family. FOUR MORE YEARS!
On a fashion note: Mrs. O bold colors are just so pleasing to the eyes after all of the winter storms we had to endure Mrs. O let;s us know and inspires us that.....Spring is here!
Keep the families who are trying to rebuild their lives from the tornados down South in your prayers, also.
What a bright, festive dress! Those colors really reminds us that spring is here. It does look like Oprah is giving a little nod to our Michelle with that brooch. Everyone looks nice and I cannot wait to see this episode on Monday.
Ooooooh, those orange Jimmy Choos!
LDS put it well, respect has been shown here. Far too little of it in the rest of the country these days. The whole birther issue is an embarrassment and a disgrace to the country. There are so many truly important issues and problems to worry about.
Nyon:
Thank you for your apology to me, but you have nothing to apologize for.
I was downright rude to Dasie and you (appropriately and fairly) called me on it -- as you should have. I take full responsibility for my insensitivity.
My dear Mom did not raise me to treat others as I treated Dasie, so I knew better than to write what I wrote. I was only thinking about "Sailorsgirl" the other day and it was just plain wrong.
I very humbly appreciate the forgiveness that has been shown to me.
Thank you!
I saw the broadcast today when it aired and I must say that POTUS and FLOTUS are a good looking couple! This was a really good interview, Oprah asked thoughtful questions and it was relaxed. I appreciate this episode today more than ever, given the events from last night. Our President has an enormous burden on his shoulders. Thank God that he has our Michelle to fall back on!
Just splendid!
Where can I find those awesome earrings she was wearing on Oprah??????
