Deck The Halls

Photos by Chip Somodevilla and Leigh Vogel / Getty Images

The First Lady debuted the White House holiday decorations today. For the occasion, Mrs. O paired a black dress with a metallic collared shirt and polka dot stockings. A diamond flower pin completed the look. Fabulous!

Update: The First Lady wears a dress by Jason Wu!

I would look incredibly boring in that dress, but Mrs. Obama looks amazing! Great fit, great length.

Yes, Ruth, I love the whole look.... and before you know it, there won't be a pair of polka dot stockings to be found anywhere! That dress is a wonderful look for her - she looks magnificent.

Love her hair!

Love the look! Mrs. O looks great, classy and elegant but she also added a touch of "different" with the stocking and her flower pin. Flattering and lovely!

Mrs. O looks very fit. I have been saying this for a long time though - her eyebrows look horrible. Whoever does them is doing a poor job. They are far too thin and obviously penciled in. I would love to see fuller, less artificial looking brows from her.

Mrs T, you have it wrong. Bo completed the look!

Hosiery?!?! Kinda like it, though.

She looks so fit and walks tall and confident. Such a great role model. Inspiring.

Bo's impersonation of a Christmas tree is magisterial!

Absolutely gorgeous! Is it me or has the First Lady lost a lot of weight recently? She looks extremely slim in this dress. I love the dress - simple, elegant, and that little collar is actually pretty sexy! It is looks like L'Wren Scott to me. She is famous for those little black "secretary" dresses.

Love the dress but for another occasion. She looks like she is going to a funeral. Come on, it's Christmas! More vibrant colors needed. What happened to the reds, greens, oranges, gold? She wears festive colors to honor military members and then wears black to a Christmas event. Confusing. Yes, yes. yes. She is celebrating the lives of those honored at these events. Maybe she dressed to match Bo... otherwise her colors are pretty morbid against all those vibrant, cheery holiday colors.

Love the clipdot tights. Yes, those are clip dots not polka dots. I thought she didnt like tights or she has changed her mind. Or was it just very cold that day?

Would have loved to see the girls to get some more Malia fashion. :)=

Look at that figure, she's absolutely gorgeous.

Is it me or does the First Lady look thinner? God bless my President and lovely First Lady.

Like all things Mrs. O , that dog is just too cute for words! Bo is a big, curly star! And Mrs. O was rocking that look like crazy. Such inspiration. *sigh*

Sigh,. . . . ; I watched the event livestream! Mrs. O, the kids, the White House Chefs, and of course Sir Bo were great! Mrs. O gave the White Executive Chef, Criseta Comerford, a big familial hug; she even had the kids direct their questions regarding the 400-pound gingerbread White House to Pastry Chef Bill Yosses'!

Can't wait for the tree lighting this evening!

Wonderful photos Mrs. T, it puts me in a festive mood...
On the style front the elegant touches of the the collar, pin and hosiery really says classic with a twist. The dress really shows off her terrific figure!

I love this dress on her. So flattering and the tights really add to the outfit. She looks terrific. I wonder who she is wearing?

Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 9:59 AM | Registered CommenterGeorgina

She looks stunning. This is my favourite look on her, tight, well fitted dress, heels and hair down. It is much like her first portrait. Could she look any more gracious? I don't think so. I also think she was dressed for a few other occasions on that day. The dress and look are multipurpose.

J'ADOREEEEEEEEEE !

Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 11:37 AM | Unregistered Commenterjosee from Martinique

I think she had an interview or meeting and then gave a keynote speak hence the dress.

Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 12:37 PM | Unregistered Commenteranar

almablanca is right, FLOTUS had some other official business matters to attend to that day as well, so this dress had to work for all occasions. i think she looks amazing. black is very slimming in general, so perhaps that's why she looks smaller, not sure.

and on another note, this is the 2nd time i've seen her and Malia wearing the same thing, but not at the same time lol! first it was the baby blue Superga shoes that Malia wore on their trip to Africa and then FLOTUS wore it for the service work of an injured veteran's house. and now it's these polka dot tights, which Malia wore to the MLK Memorial dedication. hey, they are just about the same height, so it's not highly unlikely that they could wear each other's clothes. i just think it's so funny. now i'm keeping count lol!

Mrs. O addressed military families in the East Room of the White House for the Christmas holiday decorations preview, met with members of the board of Partnership for a Healthier America, AND delivered the keynote address at the PHA’s inaugural “Building a Healthier Future Summit”.

She was appropriately dressed for the commitments scheduled in her day.

The "diamond pin" is the diamond rose that the President gave her for their anniversary a couple of years ago, I'm pretty sure. Love the dress and her longer hair; but must agree about the over-pencil'd look of her brows. I also think the Bo with Christmas trees is another paper-art item, not the real dog. Note the edgest of the white at "his" feet?

Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 4:09 PM | Unregistered Commenterchimene

She does look stunning, doesn't she!?! I like the little shimmer that we see in the collar of the dress. When I first saw it, I thought it was a skirt and sweater. Our Michelle knows how to strike that right chord, fashionwise. yThis outfit proves that you don't have to look like a bow wrapped Xmas present in order to be festive. Black and white (silver) works just as well.
Well done!

Gorgeous Dress on our First Lady Michelle!! And I LOVE the hosiery. She has trimmed down. ..Tightened her physique....BEFORE and now in the midst of the upcoming holiday season!! What an inspiration she continues to be for me. Eat healthy..splurge in SERIOUS moderation, exercise and have a good, kind spirit, which she has. So proud of her!!! World CLASS

I had to look twice but that's not Bo. Bo is, however, a main theme for this year's decorations, and I believe this is the Bo that was fashioned from knitted plastic bags.

I saw this last night. Hope it works!

Is that the pin the President gave her? She wears it frequently and it always look wonderful. Another example of their love for each other.

Mrs. A--I wanted to say the same thing but you beat me to it. The First Lady usually wears vivid colours and has expressed disdain for tights--on The View--but now she has changed her mind? She looks nice but school-marmish, like a school teacher from the 50s and as you said going to t funeral. Festive? Nah.

Friday, December 2, 2011 at 6:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterLifeboat65

J'adore. I think the occasion is perfect for an LBD with sexy hosiery.
