Mrs. O Goes West Coast
Photo by Kimberly White/ Getty Images
Mrs. O is in California this week to kick off the 2009 National Conference on Volunteering and Service. Joined by the first lady of California, Maria Shriver, the women began the service effort by rebuilding a playground in San Francisco.
First Lady Mrs. O kept her attire understated, wearing a printed top, black cardigan, cropped pants and her Puma sneakers. Update: New York Mag reports that the tunic is by Suno, a brand we are eager to learn more about!
Later in the evening Mrs. O spoke at the conference wearing a sleeveless dress that combined print and texture. Update: Mrs. O wears the Reid dress by Rachel Roy, as seen here. Thanks to Holly at Make Luxury Count for the tip!

Some better pictures here. The blouse looks lighter than in the image you have.
She and Maria Shriver are really doing a good thing together. Rebuilding a children's playground is a great way of giving back.
I am posting here because I'm not allowed to post in the chat room.
Here is the problem. I log in, and the site recognizes me as my name comes up in the upper right corner. But as soon as I click on anything, my login is cancelled. I am not allowed to post in the chat rooms, where I'm dying to comment, because the site tells me I don't have an account.
Please help me. Thank you.
A more complete video of Mrs. O today with Maria Shriver's intro. It's a little over 17 min. (the video pauses a couple of times but only lasts a few seconds each time):

I like it! It looks casual and appropriate to the occasion. Looks like perhaps she's wearing the same Puma sneaks?
Thanks Hyde Parker & Janelle for the links. Looks like a fun, pretty day. She looks great. Hair and Make-up are always perfect.
Where has everyone gone? I had to take two brief out-of-town trips and when I check in on the site...not many responses. Everyone on the chat sites? I guess that can be good or bad. It's somewhat distracting from the main focus, however, leaves more room for open discussion.

Mrs.T --- please help us.
To: Willow,
The same thing was happening to me too ... but now it seems like it is working okay.

Thank you for posting those two links! I love that outfit! The 'sash' is so much better than those wide belts that Michelle normally wears - love it ;)
I spoke too soon.
I can post here on the front page articles .. but the site is still logging me off when I go to the chat area...
There must be a BUG.
Leah D - The problem has not been fixed for me yet.
After I log in and am recognized, as soon as I click to post here, or I click on Chat - my log in disappears, and I'm not allowed to post at the chat room, and anything I post here must got to moderation.
I hope someone can fix this problem soon.
Thank you very much.
Hi Willow,
What you described happened to me as well today. But, I was able to post in the chat rooms later in the day.
What an inspirational picture. Mrs. O looks divine, as always. What a fun, free-spirited ensemble for such a charitable day! :)
OK, I am going to say it, I'm sorry but I am going to gush! This is one spectacular outfit!!!!! http://www.daylife.com/photo/0el8aEB2kobmS
Has anyone found a pic that shows the shoes she is wearing? She seems so relaxed lately and at ease with herself.
Yes her evening dress is spot on. Great color - I love the sash at her waist and the purple-play off of leopard print with her top. And the draping for her top is good for her since she's small busted. I love this outfit, and once again, she just seems so happy and at ease. That's the best part.
Basically, I just wrote something that went to moderation inexplicably. Anyway, I love the outfit she's wearing tonight, and the best part is how happy she seems. Still in her stride. Bless her.
Hi Gals, I'm aware there's a bug with the log-in. We're going to look into it tomorrow morning, but unfortunately it's not an instant fix. Thanks for your patience! Mary T.
Thank you, Mrs. T., for recognizing the login problem. I'm eager to post on the chat boards.
I really love the outfit Mrs. O is wearing at the National Conference on Volunteering and Service. The colors are great for her. Her make-up looks absolutely perfect. I love the soft color of her lipstick or gloss.
I agree with you, IVA, the best part of the look is her confident, relaxed way of being in her skin and being herself. She has such a good time doing everything she does, she gives a good vibe to everyone.
Someone wanted to see Mrs. O's shoes at tonight's event. You can see her shoes in this photo:

Black heels with open toes. I think they look great with the outfit. The length of the skirt is perfect.
Her speech was live streamed on the San Francisco ABC TV station website, but the color was poor and the outfit looked silvery. Thanks for the links to the photos. Gorgeous. The speech was good, but I think she still worries about every word and thus loses a lot of her former spontaneity. Not a criticism. She believes so strongly in the Obama administration that she doesn't want to cause any inadvertent trouble. Too bad so many closely scrutinize her hoping for anything they can spin into something else.
Today's look of cropped pants, sweater and cute blouse is great! She is dressed
perfectly for the event .
What is with the buttoning of the one button at the top? The silhouette of that is just very unflattering. Unfortunately, the cardigans are here to stay. But now she's buttoning them in that weird geeky way. Terrible look.
I just love her summery tunics, I find them a great choice for casual apparel lending an outfit grownup chic. I think they are a perfect alternative to t-shirts or pullovers. It seems to me Mrs O likes to let her femininity roar.
I love, love love the second outfit. I look forward to seeing who designed it and what else is in their summer collection. I love the mixing of subtle prints and the pop of color. Her makeup seems to match too.
To solve my login issues I switched out of Mozilla and opened up Mrs O in internet explorer.
I am wondering if the second outfit is one of Mrs. O's making, matching the shell to the skirt and adding her own sash...just wondering.
She looks adorable in the casual outfit. The proportions make her top and bottom halves look balanced and she is glowing.
If you get there quick ... HuffPo has a slideshow with close-ups of Michelle's and Maria's outfits

Oh my...TBG in sexy shades...(pic 9 here http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Jackeens/371)
Be still my heart! :)
That's a cute little tunic that Mrs. O is wearing, with hearts going all around it. It seems that she really likes details and embellishments of that nature.
I love that evening look - the neckline is very flattering on MO with the draped bodice.
I am having the same problems that Willow is having: See her comment below.
I am posting here because I'm not allowed to post in the chat room.

I'm having the same problems as jerseygirl
It's a Rachel Roy dress. Retailed for $1,195. On sale at Neimans right now.
I'm just bolding this for easy reading:
Mrs. T has already said she is aware of the sign-in issues, and is working on them. It's not just a few posters, I think it's happening to everyone.
I'd love to see full-length pix of that dress, if anyone has dug them up. What I see, I like, but I always like to get the full effect.
Welll, I like the dress, this is a perfect cut
and fit for her, slim knee length skirt, open top with some soft folds showing her beautiful arms and shoulders, the sash perfectly placed, not cluttered with accessories -- perfect. This palette from peony pink through magenta shades is very flattering and makes her skin glow. hair and makeup -- perfect!
i especially like the mix of textures and fabrics. Marioa Pinto?
I like your assessment, nonpasserat. It has the features that Mrs. O seems to like -- texture, pattern -- without being all over the place.
I wonder why photographers and/or designers want models to strike such wacky poses. I was looking at the dress on the Rachel Roy website and the model is standing with slumped shoulders, toes turned in..what's that all about? I see those same incredibly awkward poses with the models J.Crew catalog, too.
Love the dress for the speaking engagement. Perfect colours and shape - and Mrs O's hair looks amazing today. If I was grading (which I'm not) I'd say top marks!
Beautiful! Simple with a flair!
Lovely mixture of colors, including Mrs O wonderful lipstick shade. I think I'll try the same mix myself.
Mrs T,
Are you no longer sending twitter updates? Thanks.
LOVE THIS PIC of MRS. O.

Once again she looks 10 times better than the model in this outfit. Just Beautiful. Very cool that she wears Rachel Roy too. She's one of my favorite new, up and coming designers.
That Rachel Roy dress is stunning!!
I love her designs, and she is an african-american designer so that haters can hopefully stop complaining.
I tried to post a message the other day and it was never posted. It was clean and postive in content. Is therie something wrong with the site?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you for posting both the pic of Mrs. O's evening outfit, and the pic of the same outfit on the model. This is just another example of how Mrs.O takes an outfit that looks lifeless on those skinny, chicken-legged models, and makes it come to life on her beautiful figure. Fashion designers WAKE UP!!! Your clothes look better on real, full-bodied women!
oh... and I still can't believe people thought she was pregnant!! LOL!!! Look at her now!! slim and trim!
Rachel Roy isn't black. Her father is Indian and her mother is Dutch.
