State of the Union

The First Lady is attending President Obama's State of the Union address on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. this evening. For the occasion, Mrs. O is wearing an emerald green dress with stripe detailing and a cropped jacket. A black belt at the waist accessorizes the look.

Update: Per the Huffington Post, Mrs. O wears Alaia.

It's Alaia. She could have skipped the belt.

Lovely. The fabric (and her smile!) is her accessory. Simply exquisite!

The First Lady looked beautiful. Such a beautiful deep color on her.
She changed her eyebrows! They are much fuller... They soften her expression.

The First Lady wore this for a Barbara Walters Christmas special, I believe in 2012. Not sure who the designer is.

It's Azzedine Alaia and I love it. Even more I love our First Lady's interactions with her special guests, esp. the courageous Cory Remsburg.

Outfit reported as being designed by Azzedine Alaïa.

Her dress is by Alaïa. "It's, like, a totally important designer" http://inthecapital.streetwise.co/2014/01/29/michelle-obama-style-her-green-azzedine-alaia-dress-at-the-2014-state-of-the-union/

I read that too on Huffington Post. It is lovely.

The bottom of the dress reminds me of the gown she wore when President Obama received his Nobel Peace prize. I think they are by the same designer. She looks lovely as usual.

An outfit worth repeating. Alaia is the master Atelier. Love the richness of the fabric and color. Love the inspirational, role model of a woman wearing it much more. I still prefer the way she wore and styled it for the Barbara Walters 2012 interview, but fully understand the reasoning behind the understated look for the SOTU. I'm craving a new hairstyle for her. Do it Mrs O. Something different soon please.

I second that. I loved, loved the bangs! Why did she get rid of them?

I just read a tweet from someone responding to yet another cutesy tweet from the White House promoting President Obama's *softer* side. He's rubbing one of their dogs belly. The White House has been doing a whole lot of these cheesy *isn't the president just so lovable* tweet campaigns lately and it hasn't escaped notice. It also hasn't escaped notice that on the rare occasion his wife is included in anything in recent days, it's still all about him, while she's almost a shadow of her former well-loved wife self. Never seen anything quite like it, and I honestly don't like it. The danger of politics and being surrounded by a sycophantic White House staff more concerned with securing and leveraging access and control to the more powerful figure, the president, for future personal advantage, and less concerned about the health and general well-being of the president's family. Kinda scary and food for much thought.

@Fiona . . . Michelle Obama, our First Lady, will never be "a shadow of her former self." No need to be "kinda scary." And I am quite certain our President would agree. I vividly recall him throwing quite a birthday bash for his wife to celebrate her as First Lady of the United States. Awesome!

@Auntie Mom, that wouldn't be the same birthday bash Obama got all the positive press for throwing for his wife, but somehow SHE got stuck with all the negative press for among other things, the EBYC directives sent out with the save the date notices? I'm still trying to figure out how if the POTUS was planning and throwing the party, why the FLOTUS got the rap and walloping in the press for decisions made by her husband and HIS party planners. I too think Obama has become something of a jerk of late. First he and his disrespectful aides schedule the debate with Romney on their wedding anniversary. I doubt Mrs Romney would have tolerated that, or any Romney aide would have dared do that. Now it's announced that Obama is jetting off to meet with King Abdullah of Jordan in California on Valentine's day where he'll spend the rest of the long weekend golfing and goodness knows what else. King Abdullah will still head to Washington D.C to meet with members of congress anyway, so why is Obama flying to California when he can meet Abdullah in D.C or Camp David if security is the concern? Unnecessary waste of tax payer dollars, carbon footprints, and so much for all the good, romantic husband hype. He sucks and I feel very sorry for her. Nothing awesome about all the public humiliation he's been putting her through. Power corrupts and hurts the wife of the one bestowed with power if he isn't mature enough to remember that family still comes first.
