Let's Move Back to School

The First Lady hosted a back-to-school Let's Move event at Orr Elementary in Washington, D.C. on Friday. For the event, Mrs. O was joined by Allyson Felix, Washington, D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson, North America Reebok President Uli Becker and Shaquille O'Neal. After delivering remarks, Mrs. O joined students for some exercise.

On the style front, Mrs. O wore a navy sleeveless shirtdress paired with her signature Alaia belt for the speaking engagement. In the gymnasium, Mrs. O paired black leggings with a lululemon forme jacket in midnight iris multi, available here.

It looks like the same navy sleeveless Narciso Rodriguez dress she wore at the campaign rallies in New Hampshire and Iowa the day after the 2012 DNC convention. You showcased it here Mrs T:

And even in its reincarnation a year later, the dress remains timeless, perfect -- and she looks even more beautiful, so cool and fresh a year later on a hot 2013 summer day--

And as usual her speech was terrific! Straight-forward delivery and as effortlessly powerful and compelling:

I especially laughed out loud at about the 11:15, 11:20 mark where she alludes to reports on mumblings about the new healthier school lunches and giving in and letting kids off the hook from doing what's right for them - and only because they throw tantrums--

Here's an excerpt from her speech:
"---And I know it’s not always easy to get your students to do the right thing. I know that kids occasionally grumble about eating healthier food. But look, that is to be expected. Because frankly, that’s what kids do -- (laughter) -- including my own kids. They want what they want when they want it, regardless of whether it’s good for them or not. And when they don’t get what they want, they complain. That’s their job. (Laughter.)
But we have to remember that it’s our job as responsible adults in their lives to make the hard decisions to keep them healthy. It’s our job to say, no, you cannot have a candy bar for breakfast; and yes, you have to eat some vegetables every day; and no, you can’t sit around playing video games all day-- go outside and run. That’s our job. That’s on us.
Kids complain about everything. Many kids complain about having to learn math or science, right? They complain about having to read a book or write a paper on a topic they don’t like. But as educators and parents, we don’t just give in and say, well, okay, no more homework, no test tomorrow; you’re off the hook because you’re sad about it. (Laughter.)
We wouldn’t dream of doing that, because we know that learning how to add and subtract and read and write -- these things aren’t negotiable. We know that they need those skills in order to succeed in life.
Well, the same thing is true for good nutrition, physical activity –- because those tools are the foundation that they need to grow up healthy, and to do well in school, and to build families and careers of their own one day. --"

Fabulous excerpt from the speech! Common sense but explained so well by using the example of education. Mrs O is right, too many parents give in to their kids' whining. We must set a good example by eating healthily, exercising and not allow our children to eat and do whatever they want. Very good advice in this speech and delivered in a non-threatening manner.

Leggings? With a cropped jacket? Not her best fashion moment.

Figure flattering. Love the trendy layered look, great with young people. Dark colours are great to have - mix and match well and goes with many things.

The comments have become insipid and cloying. No real analysis.
Perfect example "yummy and amazing" What does that mean?

"--Leggings? With a cropped jacket?--"

No. Activewear. Specifically activewear by Lululemon --- conventional black gym pants and jacket. Specifically worn for the work-out phase at the Let's Move event -- After giving a speech in a lovely - repeat - shirtdress ---
Let's Move---
For the move part in the gymnasium: Activewear -- slim/skinny gym pants a.k.a "leggings" with appropriate gym cover-up a.k.a "cropped jacket" ---

"--The comments have become insipid and cloying--"
As opposed to the much preferred demean, insult, snark and attack of course---

Or perhaps mind-blowingly deep, insightful and "real analysis" such as this:
" --Leggings? With a cropped jacket? Not her best fashion moment.--"

Love the navy dress, but it is ruined by the BLACK belt which serves no purpose. If the first thing you notice about an outfit is an accessory--- rather than the overall image --- it's time to lose that accessory.
Wouldn't mind the leggings if the top was a tunic (longer) style, especially on a First Lady.

Look at that, we noticed an accessory first! Heavens no! It's a black belt too on a navy dress with a contrasting black collar! Quick someone call in the Calvary. What's that I see? A First Lady wearing leggings without a maxi length tunic? Outrage! Someone put Mrs Obama in a burka right away. We must never see any body parts or any trace that betrays the fact that she's a dignified, beautiful, healthy, vibrant woman. Never! A First Lady must run around in stilettos and stuffy suits or turtlenecks, long sleeves and ankle length skirts and dresses. She must also be seen and never heard and always stand 5 steps behind her husband.
