Mrs. O in L'Wren Scott
The First Lady appeared with Samantha Cameron, wife of British Prime Minister David Cameron, for a mini-Olympics event with local school children at American University today. The event celebrated the 2012 London Summer Olympics and the First Lady's "Let's Move!" initiative.
On the fashion front: Mrs. O wore a chartreuse and cream beaded silk cashmere cardigan and a yellow flower print georgette shirt, both from the L'Wren Scott Spring 2012 Collection, and paired with cream trousers. Samantha Cameron paired a pink top with slim black pants and heels.
The President and First Lady will hosted the Prime Minister and his wife for an "official dinner" tomorrow evening.
Update #1: Samantha Cameron wears a Hot Pink Otto T-Shirt by Roksanda Ilincic.
Update #2: The First Lady also wears wide leg pants by Zero + Maria Cornejo. Mrs. O also wears Kimberly McDonald blue geode and diamond stud earrings.

Dear Readers, I just wanted to let you know that I'm traveling with somewhat limited access to internet. I will do my very best to update the site in a timely manner tomorrow, but if there's a bit of a delay, you'll know why. Thanks for your understanding. x Mrs. T
Samantha Cameron looking as insipid and uninspiring as ever.
OMG. This lady is outright fabulous in anything, everything.
Even Mrs Cameron is getting fashion conscious.
That's OK, Mrs. T...we'll manage.
Mrs. Cameron has first place in this picture. Those wide white pants are not a good look. The
sweater is nice, though.
That's cool Mrs. T. Travel safely!!! Ladies and gents, you can always visit www.theobamadiary.com. Chipsticks usually has up to date pics and most of the time gets them out pretty fast. Later we can come back here and comment on the blog.
Both ladies look very chic. I love Mrs. O sweater and her shoes, even though you can't really see them in this pic.
Beautiful cardigan and shirt. Can't wait to see what she is going to dazzle us with tomorrow evening! I also see that Mrs. Cameron stepped up her game. She is not usually quite as fashionably attired.
I really like the slacks!!! she commands attention.
Really like the cardigan!
Mrs. O. was hitting it out of the park for such a long time, and then: this. L'Wren Scott is just to "out there" for everyday fashion. Samantha Cameron looks great! Mrs. O. is very much overdressed for the occasion and is calling too much attention to herself. The flotus should not be "commanding attention" in this situation, especially. The sweater color is quite unflattering and the arms are constricting. Bring it on, haters! I know how much the truth hurts.
I'm British and am totally obsessed withe the Obama's, especially Mrs Obama, her fashion and her presence. Therefore I was particuarlly underwelmed by my "first lady" Samantha Cameron and her boring fashion selection; I hope she pulls it off at the state dinner.
Both ladies look good. Thanks for the update, Mrs T. I believe Mrs Cameron's pink top is by Roksanda Ilincic.
In this picture, do you think Mrs Obama has just suggested a game of tennis, and Mrs Cameron is having to justify her decision not to play due to her high heels?
I'm British and have to say, SamCam has really grown on me. I don't think she looks insipid at all, nor would I call her fashion selection boring. Though granted, her style is very different to Mrs Obama's. I love her cigarette trousers, which seem to have become part of her core collection. I also love her shoes, although they probably weren't the best choice for this event.
On a pedantic note; thank you to the Washington Post for pointing out that this is an "official" rather than "state" visit/dinner! The next task is to convince people that SamCam is NOT the UK's first lady.
As for Mrs O, I love her cardigan but I think it is a pity it detracts from what looks like a rather interesting top. As for the trousers; not at all flattering on her, best left alone,
Both Ladies are dressed well.
@ English Observer, very good "observation" as Mrs. O did indeed engage in a little tennis at the event!
Re Mrs. Cameron's outfit - I think the shoes make all the difference. They are the wow factor. Imaging what she would look like wearing flats-meh. Her pants are pretty stylish and the shoes show them off perfectly. But something is still missing, perhaps a stack of bangles on her wrist a la Michelle
LOL @Posh Tater...I agree!...though she is trying!
Anyway, our FLOTUS looks divine...that color is wonderful on her. I can't wait to see what she will dazzle us with this evening at the dinner.
Mrs. Obama looks fabulous. She makes a sweater and pants look very chic, and wide pants are on everyone's fashion radar this year. Mrs. Cameron looks like she just threw something on. Accessories would definitely help. Did anyone tell Mrs. Cameron that you don't wear heels on a basketball court?
@christen - you are entitled to your opinion; it's an opinion, not the truth. There are people in this world who because of their inner beauty and confidence will always command attention regardless of what they're wearing. I think Mrs. O is one such person. She has certain things that she likes which may not be appealing to all, that for the most part she wears well.
This is a very engaging look on FLOUS. The sweater detail and the color really draws your eye in… I love how Mrs O mixes it up. And SamCam looks relaxed in simple lines; it’s the color combination that is fetching on her. Love her heels!
I am starting to believe that anyone who voices their opinion with even the slightest "negative" slant is jumped on immediately by defensive posters. I love looking at all of Mrs Obama's clothing, this is a fashion blog and she is a beautiful person but why can't someone voice their opinion on the fashion? @FMT and @ Char think the pants are not flattering, I agree. Wide pants are in style but not everyone should wear them.
Okay, well, I love a wide leg trouser. I just think that wide leg is So classic! BUT, it must be worn w/ a heel, preferably a chunky one. One can NEVER wear flats w/ the wide leg trouser. I can't tell what she's wearing shoe-wise. I think the sweater is fine, but I'm curious to know what the top is underneath. I thinks Mrs. Cameron looks good.. if you've got it, Flaunt it. She's nice and thin and can wear pants like that! Good on her.
@gaylev calm down! no one has been jumped on in this discussion so don't try to start anything. Folks ARE entitled to their opinions. I love Mrs. O cardigan I don't like the pants...so what. All we ask is that Mrs O not be disrespected. No one has done that. Move on.
It's true, ladywatcher, that Mrs. O has not been disrespected. However, Christen enjoys rabble rousing, and she is taking advantage of the fact that Mrs. T is not monitoring the site right now. It's childish, disrespectful to Mrs. T, and unfair to the even tenor of this blog.
I will request that Mrs. T delete Christen's post, fyi.
I think usually Mrs Obama wears fairly practical cloths at Let's Move related events. Maybe for this occasion she dressed up in respect of Mrs Cameron as the "official" guest?
I love seeing Mrs. O fashion and think she almost always looks terrific. However, I do think she looks quite overdressed and her expression seems to say, why did I wear these wide white pants?
@bevi - leave Christen alone. This is her usual taunting post and we are not going to change her. We are not haters we are here because of our love for Mrs. O. Love overcomes all. Isn't there a song by that name, LOL. Let her be and enjoy the moment. I think that is what ladywatcher was trying to say, diplomatically.
Mrs. O was not over dressed she is entertaining the wife of the British Prime Minister, you don't show up in sweats even for this type of event. Mrs. Cameron looks lovely. I love her shoes!
Amen Bevi and ladywatcher!!
Mrs. T never said she was not monitoring this site, and I took advantage of nothing and no one! Ladywatcher, thank you for pointing out that I was not disrespecting Mrs. O., merely stating my opinion (admittedly, not "the truth"). I think what Posh said about Mrs. Cameron was incredibly disrespectful and totally untrue. Insipid means "tasteless." I don't think Mrs. C. is on that level...her shoes are fabulous and the black and pink is a great combination. Bevi, you really need to calm down and worry about more important things.
Love the sweater, but I cannot forgive the poorly hemmed pants.
That's it, Lisa! THAT is what was bothering me abotu the pants, they are poorly hemmed! I kept feeling like it was the shoe that was causing the "off" look on a pant style that I love, but you hit it, it's the hemming!
dasie you are so right. It's the usual spite that we ought to ignore. Like slimy, icky seaweed that you just have to wade through to get to the clear blue sea.
Trouble is, it's just so boring, watching that negativity crawl out every day in the guise of "no really, I am NOT a hater, I admire and revere my First Lady, no honestly I do (sounds of gagging, stage left)", that every now and then I feel the need to say something, and I expect Bevi feels the same. Maybe it's optimism on my part... you always hope that underneath the exterior of a mean spirited person, there is a decent person trying to get out, and that if you can word your comment right, they'll be able to evolve, grow, and be a nicer person. At any rate less obviously disingenuous!
Anywho, SamCamYawn and Mrs O remain diametrically opposed for me. Mrs O stylish, perfectly pitched for the event, comfortable, sporty, accessible. Samantha, inappropriate heels for the venue, too tight trousers, poncy little belt that would move if she actually did something. It's a no-brainer. The colours are nice, but that's about it. Any office girl in any city has this outfit in her wardrobe. Dullsville. I watched her through the election campaign and since her husband has taken office and she's just way off mark with all her choices. Great body, nice shiny hair, insipid clothes choices. She's supposed to be an ambassador, but I haven't seen one thing she's worn that makes me think "Ooo, I like that look."
