Mix Print Monday

The President and First Lady attended the 2011 National Medal of Arts and Humanities Medal in the East Room at the White House today. On the style front, Mrs. O wore a mix print wrap dress paired with black boots.

Mrs. O is looking fit, stylish and so happy walking hand in hand with President Obama. What an amazing couple!
I am loving this dress! We last saw this dress when Mrs. O and President Obama sat down for an interview with Barbara Walters.
no one wears mix prints like the First Lady. this gown is gorgeous. does not look like a repeat. who's it from?
The President's tie completes the look. Amazingly attractive couple. Yay for our First Family!
A perfect look for our FLOTUS -- very flattering shape and colors. I'm not always sold on the mixed prints, but these are so complementary. I love that she went minimal on the accessories since there's a lot going on with the dress. And those boots!
LOVE the dress! Not feeling the boots with it so much, though. (Maybe dark hose and some of her lovely kitten heels?) But hey, it's winter. Gotta keep those legs warm! POTUS and FLOTUS 2gether 4ever!
Love the dress. Love the boots. Just not together.
Absolutely love this dress, with it's bold colourful print, flared skirt and perfect fit.
flotus has lost so much weight. her weirst and tummy look smaller than what it used to look like.she has has a superp figure now.congra!!!
I think that may be the first time I've seen a photo of the President and First Lady where she, not he, has the dominant hold. (NB: I'm not reading a whole lot into this!)
I love the first lady, but this is the first time I have seen her look and thought oh no what was she thinking!!! This looks horrible and I do not like her hairstyle!!! Sorry, I'm just saying!!! But I do agree that the Obamas are a smashing couple. They teach everyone about true love as I write this comment on Valentines Day.
I love that dress and the pairing with her favorite boots. That is a beautiful mixed print dress. It is so hard to find both the pattern and then the style that is figure flattering. This one is elegant.
This is a most sensational look! I LOVE it! I WANT it!
I truly love the FLOTUS but I'm just not feeling this dress or the hairstyle : (
Michelle Obama's bold choices are hard to compete with. Fresh and modern. I cannot think of another living First Lady who could make this work so well.
I would love to wear this dress!
Just love this couple and love following them on your blog........handsome, intelligent, well educated, fashionable, conscientious, wonderful parents, loyal and thoughtful......and always trying to do the best for all concerned..........! Certainly a couple not only to follow, but to look up to!

I love this look. The First Lay is so confident. I wish all American wo(men) could look past their personal politics and see what an awesome role model she is for all!
Nice to see the long sleeves this time of year. It seems she usually opts for sleeveless. I personally think her hair is sophisticated.
I think this is one of those dresses that can only work for a certain body type: tall. I am short and kinda petite and I've always found it's best to avoid a busy print, or a large scale print b/c it can appear that the print is overwhelming you. But such prints are definitely appropriate for taller women. I LOVE the boots. So, I like the dress on her, but not for a shorter woman.

Watch any video footage of Michelle and Barack's walk down Pennsylvania Avenue after the President's inauguration. She NEVER let go of his hand - she'd wave with one hand while holding his hand with the other, then transfer his hand to her other hand and wave with the other. THE WHOLE WALK. It was extraordinary. Part of me watching this thought how vulnerable the new Presidential couple were, walking out in the open where Secret Service would find it incredibly difficult to protect them. I just felt her hand-holding was a. protective, and b. if something horrible happens, I want to be right by him when it does. Thankfully, nothing awful happened, but I have immense respect for a woman who knows that her family must be under constant surveillance to protect them from those who would harm them, and still manages to present a beautiful, bright, strong and cheerful face to the world.
I am ever so glad to see them hold hands. Its symbolic and a very powerful gesture. It shows the bond and intimacy. I love the smile on his face. I love Mrs O - a strong woman and very brilliant. On the style front, I love the look. Way to go!!!!!
@LongDistanceFan: totally co-sign. I watched that part of the inauguration and it was noticeable how FLOTUS made sure PBO's hand was in hers. It totally said, "If they hurt you I'll be there with you." I think the fact that her jacket and PBO's were bullet proofed made them feel very vulnerable about walking in the inaugural parade and made her gesture totally understandable. But usually PBO is the dominant hand holder. She grips his hand equally but his hand is usually over hers.
LOVED this dress when I first saw it on television, and I love it even more now! It looks great with the black boots. The print is just gorgeous and so rich-looking, it fits Mrs. O. very well, and is just a wonderful style.
A longsleeve dress?
Whaouh, I did not think that Mrs O appreciate this kind of dress.Anyway, she wears it in a perfect way though a high heel shoes would do fine( with a pantyhose).
Personally, i would opt for a light color.
I'm going to have to quit my job and sew full-time! I LOVE THIS DRESS!! FLOTUS wears it so well. She is my inspiration to "do better" everyday. They look magnificent in this photo.
It seems like an unusually open silhouette for her. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any other outfits -besides ball gowns- that've been this flowy. I recall a tiered, flouncy skirt, but it seems like it was solid or color-blocked, retaining the crispness that she seems to favor. Nevertheless, I like the outfit a lot. It's a great dress and is lovely on her.
I find Mrs. O's style inspirational in how she wears casual clothes with elan: she wears shorts or tee shirts like regular people but she doesn't look sloppy or thoughtless. When I see her rocking an Alexander McQueen masterpiece for a big event, I think, "of course." When I see her rocking slacks and a cardigan, I think, "OMG, she's brilliant!'
I love this dress on her. It looks like a fun and youthful print to me. I don't like her hairstyle, it just doesn't seem to go with fun and youthful IMHO :p
I love to see them holding hands...
OMG! Love that dress! Can we get any info about the designer?
That dress is sexy and stylish. LOVE it! They are so fabulous!
Surprised that some don't like the dress with the boots or don't like either - I LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress and the boots with it! Ranks up there with some of my favorites that FLOTUS has worn.
The dress and boots looked lovely together.
Long-distance fan, I thought I was the only one who noticed her changing hands during the walk on inaugural day, she never let go, truly extraordinary.
On the outfit, love the dress, but not with the boots. Love the couple
CUTE DRESS, CUTE COUPLE!!!
@ long-distance fan and willet784 - I found your observations to be pretty interesting. You made me go back and look at Inauguration Day, 2009, again. And I have to agree with the both of you. - One of the many reasons I love this site. Love the President and Mrs. O, love the fashion, and love the insightful commentary.
Peace.
I love this look. It has a retro/vintage feeling. Very sophisticated;she looks lovely.
