Essence

The First Lady will grace the October 2011 cover of Essence magazine, where she is named one of the world’s most influential Black women on the publications’s annual ‘2011 Power List.' For the cover, Mrs. O wears a fabulous floral frock -- a 1950s Silk Brocade Dress from New York Vintage.

More on the Essence story can be found here.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful and restful Labor Day weekend!

Update: On the jewelry front, Mrs. Obama is wearing Cathy Waterman 22k recycled gold and ethically sourced fire opal leaftop arabesque earrings.

Is this a permanent hair style on Mrs. O? I love it but hope it's just a temporary do. As for the dress, WOW! I love it! The colors are beautiful and she looks absolutely radiant! I hope I see more of this dress!!!

Mrs. Obama is the ideal depiction of a well-poised and classy first lady. She is beautiful and combines style and substance well. GO First lady and MOM-in-CHIEF!

Wow! What a great look. Her joy and radiance, coupled with the cut, color, and fit of the dress makes for a superb cover. I understand ordering dresses from current designers who custom tailor clothes, but finding vintage that fits that well?! I hope she is able to get out of her bubble to actually shop in what looks like a fabulous store.
