Cinco de Mayo

The President and First Lady held a Cinco de Mayo reception in the East Room of the White House yesterday. On the fashion front, Mrs. O paired a Fall 2010 dress by Laura Smalls with a belt by Alexander McQueen.
Laura Smalls is an exciting new addition to Mrs. O's style repertoire. The African American designer and mother of three debuted her line in 2009 after years spent as an outerwear designer at Amerex Group. What's funny is that writer Gioia Diliberto for the Huffington Post saw this coming all along. She penned a piece titled "Laura Smalls: Michelle Obama's Next Favorite Designer?" back in September 2009. Amazing! [Huff Post]

Such a beautiful loving couple. God bless our President and First Lady and their family. God bless the United States of America. May we truly become a united country once again!
I love the print of the fabric and the belt!
I love the dress with the belt.
I just saw a video of this event and they were so cute with each other. He teased that, "you don't want to get between Michelle and a tamale!". It was filled with light-hearted moments....and can't we use them right about now.
I just love this Lanvin dress on her, along with my favorite belt of hers. I think she wears Lanvin really well. I tell you, our Michelle knows how to shop her closet. This dress has a blouson waistband and this belt just gives her that extra cinching. Her hair and makeup were flawless as usual. This is a nice picture of them together.
Very pretty!
I so agree, Charlene! It was nice for them to host a fun-focused event and for us to be able to see some of it. Obamadiary has lots of pix of the two of them, and their love for each other just shines through. And, of course, they look fab!
Oh, she is so beautiful. I love this blog.
I just love to see them together, like that :) They look so cute... Very nice outfit on Mrs. O, great hairdo and makeup.
I agree, Mary White. They are the most beautiful couple that have ever graced the White House (well....in my lifetime anyway). They look gorgeous, happy and in love. Green is my favourite colour and the commander in chic is working that dress.
Off the topic slightly, have we ever found out the secrets of the first lady's skin and make up regime ?? I don't mean to be nosey but even without makeup her skin is always flawless and I'm loving the pink nude shades that she has been wearing lately.
The belt....I shall go no further.
Love the dress and hair!
Their clothing seems to be well coordinated, and the two of them really look great together here. As usual, the President just can't seem to keep his hands off his FLOTUS.
gorgeous! Now this belt I really love. I'm not always sure about the high waisted belt especially when it's a one or two inch belt, but this is really flattering and interesting. FLOTUS is flawless because she is so unique, does her own thing and her light always shines through. I am enjoying every minute of this presidency.
When Charlene mentioned Michelle "shopping her closet" I had this fantasy pop into my mind, wouldn't it be unbelievably fabulous if we all could tour Michelle's closet?! Oh the excitement!!
I have always enjoyed watching the chemistry between the President and Mrs. O! I remember watching them dance together the night of his inauguration…the love and affection was obvious.
Peace
They are so good together.
She looks splendid in this color.
Her hair and makeup are flawless.
What a great smile !
I'm really loving how the belt works with that beautiful fabric.
First Lady and Dr. Biden are hosting a Mother's Day Tea for military mom's, grandmothers's, etc., this afternoon. Just finished viewing and listening to the live remarks. Dr. Biden looked so cute in her pink and MO is rocking a "repeat" dress with a gorgeous green pin and one of her silver belts.
Sigh, just had to share :0)
She looks very chic, dress and all but i think this hairdo makes her much older. All other hair styles suit her better.
Here's some photos of Mrs. O at Mother's Day Tea. She's wearing Ports 1961 dress (from India trip) with Erickinson Beamon brooch

ooooh, they are just so cute! So comfortable together. As I said on another link, I love the dress, the belt and the chemistry that is so incredibly obvious between the two of them.
The hair? not so much. I just think she looks so much better when her hair is "out" And especially radiant when she decides to wear it curly. But, you know, she doesn't really ask my opinion! LOLOL Besides, I'd love her in t-shirt and jeans. Her make-up and skin are absolutely flawless!!
She looks beautiful!
This dress is by Laura Smalls, a fairly unknown African American Designer. She looks fantastic as always!
Mrs. Obama looks great! I can't believe how many different colors she wears so well! I didn't recognize this dress from a previous picture, so thanks CID. The video of the two of them, on the White House website, is priceless. They really do have a very deep bond.
I adore that picture! I love the way the President hand is resting just above the First Lady's hip. The picture is screaming I'm in love with my wife. I, sometimes gives my husband that look and people will tell us to get a room. Without realizing how adorably I'm looking at him. I love you, Werry.
Laura Smalls......... get ready! You have hit a home run with this dress that our Michelle has on. I thought that this was that palm leaf dress by Lanvin, I could not have been more wrong. (Sorry Pinda, I got this one wrong). I saw Laura's video and some footage of her collection on WWD.com as well as style.com. Her backstory, which is in Huffington Post's style section, is nothing short of incredible. Her clothes indeed are amazing. I've got a funny feeling that we'll be seeing more of her on FLOTUS.......I surely hope so!
Cannot understand how people don't like this hairstyle on her. She looks regal. It works with this dress for sure.
That dress is incredible - I love everything about it. The colours, the cut, the pleating. My god that's FAB. And what better way to set off that wonderful belt?! Glad to see that again too. Fantastic look. And they are SO cute together....

I adore this look. Fierce, festive, flawless!
Michelle Obama looked amazing in Laura Small's gorgeous flamingo print dress, where can one purchase Laura Small's collection?
