Electric Blue

Ahead of schedule, the President and First Lady travelled to London this evening to avoid travel complications from the Icelandic ash cloud. Arriving at Stansted Airport, Mrs. O deplaned in a stunning mix of colors and print, debuting a sleek electric blue skirt suit paired with a geometric print top and green kitten heels. Cathy Waterman earrings added a punch of orange color to complete the look. Love!
Update: Per Red Carpet Fashion Awards, Mrs. O wears an ensemble by Preen from the label's Fall 2011 collection, which was inspired by the Northern California Arts and Crafts movement. The choice is noteworthy, as Preen is a London-based label designed by Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi. To my knowledge, this is the first time that the First Lady has worn Preen for a public event. Perhaps it's a sign that Mrs. O will be making a sartorial nod or two over the coming days?

BFF M'Obama looks absolutely stunning! I love how she comfortably mixes colors and patterns without missing a beat.
Side Note: How cute is it that her hubby is so focused on checking her out?
LOVE it! very first lady like.
She does not disappoint, she is stunning. This video link allows you to see the detail on the back of the jacket.

She was also wearing what looked like a lacy black top with black slacks leaving Dublin. Catch a glimpse at Obama Diary.
Love the suit, but not the blouse. I hope that she does not go conservative at the State Dinner.
much improved over the last several outfits. she is sporting a new ring on the left hand??
mrs.o changed 3 times in one day in ireland, here is the 3rd outfit, seen frrom the back...

I'm loving this electric blue suit. I mean, I don't like suits much, but this is beautiful - so clean lined! The blouse and earrings are an inspired choice. Love the pop of orange!
@Eiric, its one of POTUS' fav habits. LOL On a serious note, how does our Michelle so effortlessly mix and match colors? I'm beginning to think its really a gift of hers. I would never in a million years have accesorised blue with orange and a little green for effect! Wow
Joss it's something I learned from a florist! She pointed out that really successful arrangements often use the clash of colours to accent one colour or another. Traditionally, yellow or orange are used in an arrangement that is meant to be blue. They really make the blue POP. Cruise a flower delivery website online (a good one) and get ideas there. Stone and pale blue. Orange with a touch of green, purple with a touch of green or even orange. And hang out in expensive shops, watch the women. It's amazing what you learn. What works, and what reeeeeelly doesn't!
The outfit Mrs. O is wearing is from British designer Preen--the Fall 2011 collection. What a fitting tribute!

Red Carpet Fashion Awards reports that the suit is by Preen

Love the suit, the color, the blouse, the jewlrey.
Looks beautiful.
Won't comment on the knees showing and the the bare legs.
I know it's her trademark and her choice but it takes the class away from so many of her outfits no mater how great the outfit may be.
Her makeup looks flawless
Not crazy for the suit
I thought you weren't going to comment? Because that last comment looked a lot like you being judgemental about the First Lady having bare legs.
For the record, it only "takes the class away" for those people who somehow think that wearing tights gives a person "class" in some way. For those of us who think tights are heavy, ugly and dated it's just rather nice to see someone as instinctively and immaculately stylish as Mrs Obama not wearing them.
I don't see the Times 100 Most Influential People saying "We WOULD have Michelle Obama on the list, but she doesn't wear tights therefore obviously she has no class." Or the Best Dressed Lists she keeps coming top of...
"Look at me adoringly!" How many remember the First Lady jokingly saying that to the President at an event in the White House last year? :0)
Posh Tater,
Why would u think I wouldn't comment?? Confused.
Anyhow, that's what blogs and discussion boards are about. It would be no fun if we weren't "judgemental." What would be the point?
And who mentioned "tights?" You never heard of stockings? You're really reaching.
We're all entitled to our opinion and we can respectfully agree to disagree.
I like Mrs O. and like her style most of the time.
But just as many people would quibble vehemently about my wardrobe, just because I like someone doesn't mean I am gonna blindly like everything they wear or blindly agree with the "she can do no wrong" philosophy.
She's human as we all are.

I love this blue ensemble. She looked stunning.
@ SoccerNana - I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing. The President is always looking at his wife and it really tickles me. I love the suit and blouse - this look is classy.
After looking very closely at this beautiful blue suit as presented by Preen and looking at the suit as Mrs. Obama is wearing it, I seriously suspect that it is the same jacket just dimply turned around to wear Chanel-style. Am very much loving the beautiful silk blouse. After attending graduation at my college this past Sunday, it is clear that the wearing of hose is rapidly on the decline! Mrs. Obama is teaching her own and the younger generations how to look classy while wearing no hose.
Look at our Michelle! I just love the way she co-ordinates colors in ways that most of us have not dared. She can come up with some color combos, that while not for everyone, certainly works well for her. Let's see: cobalt blue suit, orange earrings with dark turquoise or teal suede pumps and a multi colored top that ties it all together. This suit is a winnner for sure. I liked Preen's designs from what I saw on style.com and they look like they will work just fine for our FLOTUS.
She looks absolutely marvelous!
