Can You Say Gorgeous!

Image by Charles Dharapak / AP Photo

The First Lady hosted a poetry workshop for students at the White House today, wearing one stunner of an embellished, embroidered pencil skirt. I believe we may have seen a glimpse of this once before, but not yet had a chance to admire it in its full glory. A stack of bracelets and turquoise earrings complete this fabulous look.

Update: Indeed, as several suggested, the skirt is by Naeem Khan, from the designer's Spring 2009 collection. The tank is also Naeem Khan, in dusty rose cashmere.

Love that skirt! Such a classy way to do embroidered and shine. One of the best outfits I've seen.

This is why I love her....what an amazing skirt! Indeed its gorgeous. Makeup, equally gorgeous!

The details! The fish! The flowers! It's a work of art!

Imagine for a minute how this outfit would be reversed-the plain pink skirt on bottom and the decorated fabric in a blazer on top-it would absolutely NOT have the same impact and vitality.

Beautiful skirt I am just not sure about the top, it looks a little too casual for the opulence of the skirt I am interested who designedI it.

Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 9:30 PM | Unregistered CommenterJohn

looks like a modified version of Naeem Khan's Spring 2009 dresses: http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2009/spring/main/newyork/womenrunway/naeemkhan/#slide10&ss1

the skirt is ok, a little bit too embellished, and the top looks like an undershirt. not her best offering

I MUST HAVE THAT SKIRT!

Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 9:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterThatOtherMimi

I watched this event and all I can say is OMG, what a spectacular skirt. Love her accessories. And most of all, I love what she's doing for young poets. GO FLOTUS!!

This is indeed a gem of a skirt! And I must say she styled it superbly with the simple knit top and coordinated accessories. Gorgeous indeed!

I adore your captions, Mrs. T.

The balance of simple tank and embellished skirt. I say "Gorgeous."

Love that skirt! The tank top just doesn't do it justice. The color is great but the tank top look is
just too casual.

This is nice.

BUT the person doing her eyebrows needs to be fired. They dont complement her face. Get on that, please FLOTUS Stylist Person.

Wow, wow and wow! I absolutely love all of the detail and color in this skirt. Now THIS is one classy, yet interesting outfit.

Gorgeous, Gorgeous ,Gorgeous and more!!!! I love how she doesn't use jewellery in a boring matchy-matchy way, rather she uses it to sort of add a pop of color which always adds interest to the overall look of an outfit!

I dont think the top is appropriate for a First lady. I agree with one of the posts... it looks like an undershirt. The skirt is nice, but too busy for me. I have seen her in better outfits.

I love the complete look. The make up, the accessories and the simple classy top
highlights the fabulous artistry of the pencil skirt. Mrs. O's outfit is on point.

I certainly can make room in my closet for this outfit.

¡Maravillosa!

Ella es espectacular, siempre sabe acertar con el estilo para cada acto y además sabe poner una nota muy personal a todo lo que se pone.
Es la mujer más elegante y saber estar en la actualidad.

I think you need the simplicity of this top with the ornate skirt. The color of the top complements Mrs. O's skin tone beautifully. She is lovely.

I am drooling over the skirt--and the top is just a perfect color with Mrs. O's skin. I am so proud of our beautiful first lady...!

Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:29 AM | Unregistered CommenterSigridO

Great skirt! The top is too bare for an event like this though.

Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:30 AM | Unregistered CommenterChristine

OMG, be still, my heart -- that skirt ROCKS! It sparkles just like she does. Work it, Madame FLOTUS, work it!

Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:43 AM | Unregistered Commenterladyspelman

It's been awhile since I've been BLOWN AWAY by an outfit, but this one is definitely a grand slam home run! I think the tank top is just perfect, it matches perfectly and looks like a high quality fabric, not just any cotton tank top. And the earrings look beautiful, they pick up the blue color in the skirt.

Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 10:45 AM | Registered Commenterbabs

stunning. this blush color is beautiful on her and that skirt is a work of art!

Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 11:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterAlisa

love it! the top and skirt match, but i think a white top would have looked even better, it would have pop the colors even more and looked great against her skin. but this is just beautiful.

Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 12:06 PM | Unregistered Commentersc

That top matches the skirt perfectly and that makes the whole thing look as one outfit designed by the designer. For that reason I think the top is fine. The skirt is so appropriate for a poetry event...takes your imagination to a different world. Just beautiful.

Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 12:19 PM | Unregistered Commenteranar

A bit iffy for day but I love it. Love those colors! Wish I could afford Naeem Khan. My guess is the skirt is in the $2500-3000 range; and the top $3-500. The top probably looks dressier in person as it is probably a luxurious fabric such as silk jersey. Someone who purchased that skirt would have an investment piece to keep for years!

Gorgeous, beautiful, stunning and yes inspiring. Mrs. O just has a sense of what to wear to inspire...who in that audience would not be inspired...epitome of beauty and brain. To top it all she has a great sense of style...she keeps it simple, very graceful. What a lady! Learning is fundamental, being graceful is priceless.

Love the skirt and the intricacies of it.

The color is great too.

Nice ensemble.

Naeem Khan is a designer that I would wear often if I could afford it. lol
