Astro Chic

Photo by Charles Dharapak / AP Images

The Obamas visited the Orbital Processing Facility at Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida yesterday. For the occasion, Mrs. O wore a tented tie back top with slim navy pants and olive flats. Casual and chic!

We love because she looks like one of us, and most people can aford what she wears.

Well, this look on Mrs. O is so-so for me...I have seen other pictures of the front of the top and it really does not look good. The front has a look as though the top is pulling back in the neck...just not flattering in the front at all.

Crazy chic! You go, Mrs. O!

I love this top and the similar one in black.

I love that it is reversible. 2 tops in 1!

Fun!

WJ, i'm a little confused as to what you are talking about. Not appropriate for what? The top is fly.

@winniejeans Nonsense. A woman with a Harvard Law degree no doubt knows how to put on her clothes.

The Florida photos are great--it looks like a fun field trip!

Actually the other reversible top was in blue.

This is cute. Nice to wear for a museum outing.

Is this top two pieces or one? Regardless, I love it and I want it!

Beautiful First Family, all dressed casual-chic; or like Ms. T wrote, "astro" chic.

It's such a beautiful day and weekend! "don't need no 'hatertion'", grab your husband or a family member and dance!

Watching C-span, waiting for the arrival of the Mrs O. and the Pres at the White House correspondent's dinner

OOOh she's wearing her hair in that tosseled look. Very simple lines to a pewter? colored gown, deep V neck, very flowing (heavy silk?) interesting looking necklace. Can't tell length

Mrs O did not wow this time like the two previous time. I don't think I care for the look. Maybe later I will change my mind.

It has been reported that she is wearing Halston to the White House Correspondent's Dinner. I believe this is the first time she has worn Halston.

Mrs O in Halston at the White House Correspondence Dinner at the Washington Hilton, 4/30/11:

The front with a really handsome guy waving
The back!!
The hairstyle

The jewelry 1
The jewelry 2
Wow...she is stunning!

@marachne: THANK YOU!!! The obamadiary pics are AMAZING!!!! The FLOTUS may have missed (IMHO) with this astro blouse but she is off the charts at the Correspondent's Dinner!!! I want ALL of her jewelry. ALL of it. That necklace - we've seen a similar one recently. Love the color of her dress, the fit, the opening in the back, her hair and makeup - absolutely staggeringly stunning and one of her best looks yet!

WH Dinner Necklace: A Jordan Alexander by any chance? Looks similar to this look (a Toast to Style - March 21st) but it looks all pewter......

@isonprize:
Thank you for the pics. Wow! what a knockout dress, jewelry, hair, and the makeup......Wow!
And the back with her toned body is truly amazing......Halston should be skipping for joy! There is not one top fashion model on the runway that can pull the back of that dress off the way Our First Lady. The color is so right for her skin......as all the colors that she boldly wears. I must say, she is wearing that dress. More pics, please. I can't wait to see the shoes. What a perfect couple. I know the royal couple had everyone's attention for the last couple of days. But we have royalty right here in the USA and I am proud to see a loving couple still standing and holding their own.

Thanks, marachne, for the link to the correspondents' dinner photos. Mrs. O's tassel-y jewelry is innovative and stunning and I must have some!

To me, the outfit she wore to the Kennedy Space Center and to visit the tornado victims was totally inappropriate. I think she looked terriblefor a First lady and make no mistake, that is what she is!
And in my opinion, she should never wear her hair up and back - it is not a flattering hairdo for her. I am a fan of hers and think that, usually, she has very good taste, but I want our First Lady to dress a little more formally. We have to face the fact that she is not "one of us" - she is the First Lady of the United States.

This hair-do is not flattering esp. from the angle seen in the above photograph.
Always love Mrs. O's shoes though!

Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 5:57 PM | Unregistered CommenterMrs 2S

@ Linda..you know, that is exactly what the problem had been with former first ladies....they never reached the people as they were all in their little molds in their boxy suits. They probably never thought one day of putting on something different. Michelle Obama is the people's First Lady. She is in fact "one of us" and while in no way attempting to take away from the importance of that position, she is secondly the FL.
That is very apparent whenever she makes a public appearance, people of ALL walks of life gravitate to her BECAUSE she is SO real. She is SO human.
PLEASE step out of the box!!! She certainly has and she will continue to be the person that she truly is and nobody else.
Many of us think she looks fantastic and relaxed. I am certain she was their firstly as Malia and Natasha's mummy.

@trinisamba
Well said. I think she looked perfectly appropriate for the event. What should she be wearing--a little red skirt suit? We love her because she IS one of us. She came up in a working class and has never forgotten it. I am experimenting with some of the "looser" tops and finding them very fun to wear. Go Mrs O!!

Don't care much for the outfit, but that is one GORGEOUS picture! The subjects, the elements, the colors, the composition . . .
