Going for Gold

Official White House Photo by Lawrence Jackson

Thank you to Anagrom, who spotted fantastic photos of the president and first lady posing for pictures with members of the U.S. Winter Olympic teams during their White House visit last week. The full album can be seen here.

The orange dress, I believe (and as suggested by others in the comments) is the same Liz Claiborne dress Mrs. O wore for her appearance on Iron Chef America earlier this year. Vice President and Dr. Biden also joined the photo session, with Dr. B dressed in patriotic red, white and blue.

Update: Dr. Biden's dress is Michael Kors Spring 2009, seen on the runway, here. Notably, this is the same collection that produced the black Michael Kors dress Mrs. O wore for her official portrait.

Wow! Love the bold color and the cut/pleats of Mrs. O's dress. But I have to say, I think I like Jill's even more. Great little color block dress, and the necklace adds such a nice touch!

I stood with my boyfriend in my prom picture the way the Bidens are standing! Too cute! I think Mrs. O's dress is so cute and I can hear the sound it makes - a subtle *swish swish*!

Another wonderful moment with The Obamas and The Bidens. Warm and caring, great humanitarians.

What is she... a size 2!! She looks really nice too actually... she being the 2nd lady.

Mrs. O knows how to work the color wheel. The orange really stands out against all that blue. She has worn bangles a lot during the last few weeks.

First...Michelle...the third post on these comments.....please drop the capital letters...I don't like being yelled at and check your posts for spelling and grammar.
Mrs. Obama looks okay, but she stands out as if to say, "Look at me, not the Olympic athletes". It looks like she is trying to hard to draw attention to herself. She should be honoring the athletes. I think she could have made a better choice to patriotically welcome the Olympic team.
Dr. Biden is spot on. She is perfection in this outfit for the occasion.

Did not like MOs dress the first time and still don't like it. Pleats make her waist look thick, the bodice makes her flat chested. This lady can glow in any color but this synthetic orange is ugh. This would have been a great occasion to wear the Jason Wu gold sheath she wore in mexico (not quite right for a formal dinner) which was gorgeous on her. Hair & makeup -- fabulous.

Dr Biden looks stunning here. Hard to believe she is 7 or 8 years older than MO. Wow. What is HER diet/regimen/makeup routine. She knows what looks good on her & rarely makes a mistake. VP is totally in love with her, so cute.

Getting to see the full album of pictures was fantastic. It was great to see everyone looking so relaxed and happy. Both First Lady Obama and Dr. Biden looked incredible. Now I know why I love this site so much. You bring us where the action is each and every time. I tell everyone about the site. Keep bringing us all the special events.

I like Mrs. O's dress but I LOVE the way Dr. Biden is rockin' hers! I like it so much better sans the white belt, too!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 2:02 AM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this cut on the bodice is PERFECT for the FLOTUS. She wears halters sometimes but they give her a wide-shoulder "swimmer's" look. This squarish bodice balances her entire figure, just like the gold dress she wore in Mexico did. Plus it isn't an empire waist, so it lengthens her torso. Home run. And I do think it is the Iron Chef dress. Such a beautiful color!

Mrs. O and Dr. B look great in the styles they chose to wear. The color of Mrs. O's dress is great for the season. They both look simply chic and always approachable.

Wanda she is the First Lady. she doesn't need to dress to draw attention.the attention is already on her.

here are some info about her chartreuse bag for those interested.

Both looks are wonderful. Mrs. O has the retro mid 60's look while Mrs. B has the late 60's look. Very chic indeed.

I don’t know where I read that Mrs Biden runs 5 miles a day but if it’s true then it certainly shows. She is lean and supple and the dress and complementary pearls really suit her to a T. Fit and Fab, women of 40 plus are now looking way better than ladies half their age. How refreshing in a society that believes that a middle aged woman is a freak of nature if she looks good. What an inspiration for me !! because I'm over 40 !!!!!!!!!

The Obama’s and The Biden’s look sensational as does everyone in the picture. They make American Politics so exciting and I find that in my attempts to follow Mrs O, I am learning a lot of interesting things as well. BTW, I loved Mrs O’s dress the first time around but I like the simplicity of this emsemble without the cardigan as before. As always, everyone looks happy and proud to serve their nation.

I love the choice of the bright blue shoes with this -- unexpected!

Ms. Wanda, you might want to check 'your' spelling....that should be ' trying too hard'. Secondly, you also might want to check your tone...I am sure that Michelle used all caps in error and it was not her intent to yell at you. We really must be kinder to one another.

Now, about the dress...."you look gorgeous, darling!". I am sure the First Lady dressed with doing more than one thing in mind. So perhaps this dress better suits something else she did. When it's all said and done, these youngsters have the distinct honor of meeting and being photographed with the President and the First Lady of the United States. It's highly unlikely they will be concerned with her dress. Though, she does look fabulous! But that is just my opinion. Peace All

Wanda, re your Michelle comment: the capitals annoy the backside off me too but apparently she has to do it that way because she has an eye condition.

Canyongal I agree with you on the shoulders thing and halternecks. It's a very tricky look and so few people can carry it off well. Mrs O looks fine in them, but in my opinion she looks better in this kind of thing.

This dress is perfect for Mrs O in cut and shape, but I must say I am not a great fan of it somehow. I'm not sure..... is it because it's orange? I don't know. I thought it was the gold dress from Denmark without the petticoats?

At the end of the day though, I think Jill Biden looks amazing today. Out of the ballpark great. And does Joe Biden love his wife, or does he love his wife??!!!

WOW, MO really looks great in this marvelous dress.

I didn't realize the President was in the picture until I re-read the description.

She really steals the show.

Dr. Biden looks terrific too !

Mea culpa, Michelle. I shouldn't have let your capital letters bother me. Thanks Posh Tater for setting me straight. Brooksie, I will strive to watch my usage and spelling....we are all capable of mistakes, it is true.
However, I still believe there was a better choice in the closet than this orange dress.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 2:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterWanda

River Rush....OMG, neither did I!!!!! I never even noticed that the POTUS was in the picture standing right next to her! SNAP!! Must be the tangerine color - the eye goes right to the FLOTUS! WOW!

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 3:36 PM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

Jill Biden is so hot!!! She's not just 40+, but turning 59 in two months. I think she looks so much better than the annoying Hollywood starlets and the 40ish actresses flaunting their nip/tucked bodies.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 4:10 PM | Unregistered Commenterpipsqueak

Dress looks good on her. Like it better without the cardigan and I honestly wouldn't have recognized that it was the Iron Chef Dress if it hadn't been mentioned. I love those bracelets. So I have to ask again. Did she donate them or didn't she? Or did the President get her a new set?

Oh, Mrs. Biden looks great too. She is such a hottie!

Both ladies look lovely. It's kind of sad that before even reading the comments I knew what some people would say re: Mrs. O vs. Dr. B's outfits.

Anyway, if you look at all of the pictures, Mrs. O is wearing cute little blue strappy sandals.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 5:05 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

Oh....I am loving those strappy blue kitten heels!

This is the first time a Cocoa Brown skinned woman has been on this particular stage, and I love it because women of our hue look great in strong colors. That's why we wear them. The majority population must begin to add strong, rich colors to their pallete of acceptable, wearable fashion colors even if they cannot wear them personnaly. It's like the old nude crayon in the crayola box. I've always known the 'nude' was an absence of clothing, not creamy beige or cocoa brown, or burnt sienna.

WOWeeee! The colors are so lively! Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Biden both are looking gorgeous! Absolutely stunning! This orange dress on Mrs. Obama leaves me speechless! Liz Clairborne is at the TOP of the list as my favorite designer. All of her clothes fit me perfectly. No alterations needed! The black and red Michael Kors dress on Mrs. Biden is stylishly chic and are two of my favorite color combinations.

These ladies prove it....and I concur, WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BARE ARMS!!! LOL! I'm working on the tone and contour of my arms even as we speak!

Yayyy! Thanks for posting Dr. B as well Mrs. T, as i, and others have previously commented on how we'd love to see more of her ..
They both look ravishing and know how to dress their figures.

What Mrs. O. can get away with is amazing. Who else but she could pull it off?

Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 2:37 PM | Unregistered CommenterJas

Now I realize it was the turquoise sweater that threw things out the last time Mrs. O wore this dress.

Without it, she looks great.

Dr. Biden is one hottie too!

Mrs. O looks Faboulous in this color I don't know why the other posters have a problem with it..her complexion works with this well...Dr B is so far away I can barely see the make of her dress but it
looks like it is nice too....Mrs O can rock just about any color not so for Dr.B...these bright colors would wash out her complexion but the red works well for her..not too mention the smooth unwrinkled skin of the first lady..but women are working these outfits!
