Bold Blue

P030910SA-0684

Official White House Photo by Samantha Appleton

What a busy day for Mrs. O! Also today, the First Lady met with Mrs. Ada Papandreaou, the First Lady of Greece, in the Yellow Oval Room of the White House. For the appearance, Mrs. O changed into a vibrant blue sheath dress, accesorized with bronze heels and stacks of gold cuff bracelets.

Update: Mrs. O wears a deep royal jersey dress by Narciso Rodriguez.

Spot on! Less is more and the bracelets add a touch of panache.

I think it’s generally agreed that Mrs. O wears most…no make that all…colors well, but this is one that I most love to see her in. I can’t see much detail of her dress yet, but just seeing this beautiful, bright hue immediately made my spirits soar!

Does anyone know the first lady's shoe size, her feet looks so slender.

What a great dress in a beautifully electric shade of blue. Her entire outfit is very well put together. Love the shoes and bracelets, too.

gorgeous! i covet the entire look including those jewels.who knew pairing gold with electric blue could work so amazingly well.i love watching her because she makes me step out of my comfort zone when it comes to accesories. i would have opted for black.

Mrs.T i can't thank you enough for this site.

Gold cuffs and bronze shoes, brilliant blue, what a nod to ancient greece, at least in my mind! I really like this outfit and especially for this occasion.

@Chrystelle, I agree. I NEVER would've paired electric blue with gold. I would've opted for silver, pewter, white or cream but certainly not gold. This is a good look. This is simple and under-stated that any woman can do at any price point. We need to call FLOTUS the Teacher because she sure shows some of us (who are stuck in a fashion rut) just how it can be done!

Ditto to everything Charlene & Chrystelle have said. The first lady has a real eye when it comes to colour co-ordination. I would never have thought that those colours could work but she looks delicious here. I also agree with Chrystelle, in recent times I have stepped out of the box where my wardrobe is concerned. The First Lady is definitely a mentor and a teacher.

I also love the yellow Oval room, it always looks bright and beautifully decorated. The only thing it needs is for that fireplace to have a roaring fire.

Jim, I've read she wears a size 9 1/2. She has very slim feet and hands.

Well, this is yet another out of this world look for the First Lady. As great as she looks in color, this is one of the best colors she's ever worn.

The whole look is gorgeous.

I love the blue sheath dress. That said, it's interesting to run back through pictures of visiting women to the White House, from Nancy Reagan to Sarah Brown to Mrs. P., above. They are generally wearing suits. Mrs. O. is generally wearing a dress, or a less-casual ensemble (like the skirt and sweater she wore when Mrs. Reagan came). As hostess, she can wear whatever she wants, from jeans to a ballgown, but it's interesting to see that her outfit is usually not as formal as the people who come to visit her.

Love the BOLD BLUE in this picture. She looks simply elegant.

Now, I must say Mrs. O has FINALLY had a miss...she's certainly been on a role. I'm not feeling this outfit at the state department event. Too loose for my taste and overall not something I can get with. I commend her for her use of the pin though!

Don't like today's outfit. Looks like something Laura Bush would like.

Oh, well. It's ok to have one bad outfit when you haven't had a bad outfit in a long while.

This shade of blue, the gold cuffs and the bronze shoes remind me of Greece. Perfect!

Just noticed on the flicker super-size photo, that it looks like the dress is two-toned. With either black or darker blue on the front of the bodice.

I wouldn't be surprised if Greece's first lady chose to be a bit dressed down and business-like in her suit as Greece is in a such a precarious economic & political situation right now.
