First Lady Mrs. O kept with tradition, visiting the Childrens National Medical Center today to read the book "The Night Before Christmas," which has been done by first ladies dating back to Bess Truman. For the appearance, Mrs. O had Santa and Bo in tow, wearing a black turtleneck and trousers, paired with an embellished cardigan.
Update: Mrs. O wears the *sold-out* Merino Sparklegate Cardigan from J.Crew, seen here.

Oooh SHINE ON Mrs. O! - I want a sweater just like that! Also I am lovin' the swept back hair!
NICE LOVE HER OUT FIT TO MAD MRS OBAMA DIDNT BRING THE KIDS WITH HER THEY WAS THERE LAST YEAR
{heart} her cardigan! Could I wear this cardigan with the knee-high camel-colored boots?
I like that Michelle and Bo are dressed similarly. Cute!
I'm just gonna say it: I think they could have gotten a better Santa.
This is delightful! Mrs. O is always on point but that !@#$ Bo is sooo cute, too. He has on a tuxedo and spats! He's like a big ol' curly sheep.
@Christina: yup, Santa looks a tad too young (even Santa's getting botox these days-kidding) and not-quite-so-cheery.
Love Mrs. O's pants, really do. The cardigan 'trim' looks a bit too heavy, but it's definitely high impact.
I think this outfit looks very nice...just wish it could have been a bit more "Christmas-y."
Bo is naturally "embellished" and definitely in synced style with his mom.
So cute. Mrs O looks great and Bo is too cute with his furry tux.
The sweater is interesting. It looks as though the embellishments would be heavy, yet they don't seem to drag down the material. I like it.
And Bo is friggin' adorable.
@ Georgia: Sure, as long as you're not wearing only knee-high camel boots! ;-))
Mrs. T, thanks for the link for the cardigan. I couldn't imagine what exactly that trim was, so I appreciated the detailed description (silk crepe de chine, sequins and "baubles") on the website. Very festive! I see it is sold out already -- another Mrs. O bump for J. Crew.
All of her outfits during this holiday season have had a little something festive about them, without being over-the-top. She always gives so much thought to the time and place, when choosing her wardrobe.
Love the First Lady's cardigan. Very festive! Bo is so adorable...hopefully he didn't bark at Santa like he did last year. LOL!
Like the sweater .... Bo looks cool.
Great photo, I like Santa too !
Fabulous cardigan by J Crew. Cardigan sold out! Sniff, sniff... :(
I agree about Santa - He's not quite up to par. Love the sweater and Bo is manicured to perfection!
I want to know more about the sweater and close-up pics of the embellishments would be nice as well. Also, isn't Bo the most beautiful doggie ever?
@Strong Foru -- if you go to the J.Crew link that Mrs. T provided, you can see the sweater. Even though its sold out, if you click "more" you can zoom in on the picture. It's interesting construction -- that silver placket part is solid sequins. It doesn't look like it's supposed to be buttoned at all. It's unusual but I like it; it says "holidays!" without her having to wear a big embroidered sweater with jingle bells sewn on, or something like that.
Bo is totally adorbs.
I wish I still believed in Santa! (SIGH!) Did we all not get much better presents when we still believed?
Anyway, I neither like nor dislike this look; it seems that she went for stylish comfort and succeeded.
I hope Santa is good to me this year :-) Maybe there can really be miracles when you believe.
I like the cardigan, but the pants are also a great length and fit!
I love this look, polished and pulled together ---Nora if you continue to believe in miracles they will come true --- trust me I know
Nice look - festive without going over the top and drawing too much attention to herself, the event is for the kids!
I'm really surprised and disappointed in the Santa, though. Tall, skinny, young and fake everything. There are such fantastic Santa's out there, why couldn't she get the real deal?
@Nora
You sound sad. Please do cheer up and I really hope you get what you are hoping for. I know it is difficult for those who are on the outside to give advice. I do not live in your country so I may not know what you are going through. But please try and keep your chin up. Keep on believing.
Greta
LOVE that cardigan!
@ Nora
There are always miracles. You only have to look around.
Those who wish to sing, always find a song.
Merry Christmas, all
Char from Seattle
Mrs. T, just wanted to correct information you posted about the "Christmas in Washington" special on TNT: it's this Friday, December 17 @ 8:00 p.m. ET - not Monday, 20th as you posted. Just FYI.
@Char, @KathyK, @Greta. THANKS A BUNCH, My Mrs. O Family!!! You are awesome. I did not really expect anyone to cheer me up, but it is a welcome and appreciated gesture. Happy Holidays to all of you and, yes, I will dare to continue to believe in miracles, especially after getting what can only be a sign from God today about faith and hope. Love you tons.
@Lael correct me if I am wrong but she may not be in charge of choosing the Santa? That could have been the first time she saw that Santa....hmmm
Mrs. T, check this out! Mrs. O wears vintage designer Norman Norell, a first for First Ladies!

Here is a cute pic of Mrs. O, President O, and Bo. I think that is a dress Mrs. O has on but I'm not sure. Eiter way, it looks cool and unique. I wish I could find a pic that shows the front.

For anyone that who was hoping to snag a cardigan ... I just saw an entire rack full at the J.Crew in Soho, NYC. If you call the catalogue, I'm sure they can have one sent from the stores.
