Hello, Sunshine

The president and first lady appeared in the East Room at the White House this afternoon to host the Diplomatic Corps Reception. For the event, Mrs. O turned to a Jason Wu custom chartreuse satin sheath with inverted pleat bodice detail, last seen in April 2010 when the first lady traveled to Mexico, here

Oh my oh my oh my, what a gorgeous dress! One of my favorite Wu desings. As usual Mrs O looks devine in gem tones. Love her and the Pres.!

The President and First Lady look amazing. I find it inspiring how they manage to look so carefree with all the pressures they face in their daily lives! God Bless America!

They always look at each other so adoringly. Their love is so beautiful. And so are they!!

I love her hair like this. As for them looking good in the face of so much adversity, well you never let them see you sweat! You keep moving forward and looking good while doing so.

What I love about Mrs. O, and President O, is that they let their love show so openly. I love having a first couple that seems to approach the world from a heart-centered place, as that has to have a positive impact on all their dealings. And they look good doing it, too!

Love, love, love this dress - the style and colour enhance Mrs O's beauty and elegance. She looks so confident and natural, her hair and make-up are 'spot-on' as usual. She really does the sheath dress justice - always a winner on Mrs O in my opinion but this is especially good.

Sheer elegance. The first lady never has a bad hair day and is always lovely.

I love the fact that she is wearing her hair longer, love it, love it, love it.

Still love the dress, especially the color, but hates the hairdo; it looks dated and is too high in the crown. It does seem to have a nice brown color that I love.

But it's gold, not chartreuse, right? I love the FLOUS in gold. She is stunning....it's not an easy color to wear.

I think Mrs. O's hair looks great, and the dress is beautiful. It's just begging for one of her glorious brooches, however!

Is it just me, but i think of late she is more 'first ladylike"

The simple sheath dress--beautiful! One of my fashion pet peeves and personal fashion problems is well-fitting armholes in sleeves dresses. They must not gap and reveal dough-y underarm flesh (not that Mrs. Obama suffers from that, but I do!). This timeless classic look is complemented by her understated, flattering hairstyle. What about the earrings? Teardrop pearls? Cloisonne?

It looks like gold to me as well, but the official word from Jason Wu's press representative was "chartreuse"

Agree with those who say this looks more like a pale gold - but it was more chartreuse (greeny yellow) in the Mexico photos. Differences in lighting and processing?

The dress is beautiful and I love the color on her - she is just glowing.

Love the gold. I believe that all darker-skinned women, such as our beautiful First Lady, look stunning in jewel tones. I would love to see a more complete picture of the dress - does anyone know where other pics are available?

This photo is so beautiful. Mrs. O is glowing, the dress is perfect and the two of them together...well what is there to say? They make me feel so proud.

This dress looks gold on my monitor, but I remember when our Michellle wore it before. You could clearly tell that it is chartreuse and quite lovely. I like how she kept it simple and those earrings are darling. Personally, this chartreuse is one of my favorite colors, but can be a tricky one to wear. Jason Wu has really come into his own and FLOTUS wears his designs quite well. Really nice!

@ Cinci Kid, there's some pics on Huffington Post in the Style section where you'll see a full shot. Also, there's a close-up of the earrings....darling!

Now that's a gold dress I could wear!

I wanted to also comment on the stitching on the top of the dress. Very flattering.

By the way, is there an online visual dictionary of tailoring terminology? I would like to comment more knowledgeably on the details of Mrs. O's outfits.

Very pretty. NIce color for autumn transition.

I like this MUCH better this time. Maybe it's the photograph but I disliked this dress last time out. Today it looks much softer and way more flattering. Very glamourous.

Omo...omo...omo...Mrs. Obama is so Chic in Chartruese! The intensity of the color against her beautiful skin makes her stand out even more!

The First Lady is simply, absolutely stunning!! Her hair has grown out some, but it seems to flatter her face even more, and that just makes her all the more gorgeous! We are so blessed to have this incredible woman as our First Lady- she does nothing but give her all to the work of representing this country in the best way possible, and the way she does it honors us, herself, and especially her loving husband.
