From the Desk of Jenna Lyons

Count us among the long list of those spellbound by Ms. Jenna Lyons. This piece from the Huffington Post is a must read, featuring a look at the J.Crew Creative Director's desk. Particularly endearing is a handpainted note, now framed, from Isabel and Ruben Toledo post-inauguration. We do just love Mrs. O's remarkable line-up of designers!

Update: Thanks to desertwind for pointing us to this piece by Booth Moore of the LA Times.

Update: Oooh, we have just discovered that the Cotton Sateen Gateau skirt (the skirt Mrs. O wore in Italy) has returned to final sale at J.Crew for $29.99.

Jenna Lyon was the main feature in the Sunday Los Angeles Times:

J.Crew's Jenna Lyons is building an empire

Long, very interesting article with lots of photos - in the print edition, anyway.

My comment didn't make it through for reasons that are not clear, so will try again.

There is another very interesting article in the Los Angeles Times. Jenna Lyons was the main feature in the Times's Sunday Image section, with lots of photos (unfortunately the online article only has a few).

Perhaps my attempt at a html link didn't pass muster. Will simply type the url for you to paste into your address bar. You will enjoy this article in addition to the Huffpost article featured here.

I have taken the time to post two comments. Neither are posted and the note about their being in moderation has been taken down. I cannot see that there was anything objectionable in them. Just a heads up about a great article on Jenna Lyons in Sunday's LA Times. ???

Mrs. T, Booth Moore at the LA Times also had a nice story yesterday covering Jenna Lyons & the evolution of J Crew. (it's funny, but I'd always thought the company was older than it is.)

Bee Gee, all your comments are there now. My suspicion is that you're not signed in when you're making your comments.

I find it interesting how Jenna's outfit in the Huffington Post article is similar to Mrs O belted sweater layered look with combined designer pieces.

GAH! Whatever updates you did (like 1-4 weeks ago, I don't even know) messed up the feed and I totally didn't notice! I'm so behind!!

Hm, I do really like the new site, though! Especially the logo and commenting enhancements!

Thanks, Christina. There was definitely something wrong yesterday as the "your post will appear on the site when it has been reviewed by an editor" (paraphrased) note was missing, too. Yesterday's comments turned up today.

The Times article on Lyons was a main feature and tied in so well with this article on the Huffpost piece. Lyons is a quirky, interesting woman.

The skirt is available on sale - but only in a 4, 10 or 12. Three colors. Nice skirt.

Jenna Lyons is also featured in a wonderful fashion editorial in the August issue of Town and Country magazine.

It's too bad tmost of the items I have purchased from J. Crew are made in China or other offshore countries. It's been great press for an American designer, just not an American product.

Yes spreegirls, there is that. It's something that makes me hesitate quite a lot these days. I guess people have to weigh it up. But in this instance it interests me that such a quintessentially American look is made abroad. And in China to boot! Shame.

There's a great deal of outsourcing these days, that's true.

The JCrew skirt has sold out. . .might want to take down the update! :(

For many years I did not hesitate to buy clothes with a Hongkong label as they were often very high quality. Some of the best cashmere sweaters are made there. The cashmere comes from China - they even ship it to Scotland.

Now that Hongkong has been returned to China, everything made there is also labelled "Made in China".

I thought Lyons's put-together in the Huffpost piece was a bit much. But she is known for her quirkiness. She looked better in the simpler clothes she wore when photographed for the LA Times. The only exception: jeans with holes in the knees. Fashionable? Not.

Jeans with holes in the knees not fashionable? Coo. When did that happen??!

Hi Posh - once again, the age-old problem of two people separated by a common language! A binky (or binkie) on this side of the pond is usually a pacifier. Though I've also heard the term used for a "security blanket" or even a stuffed animal. These items are usually favored by children, of course, but the term is also applicable to husbands in relation to a BlackBerry, etc.

That said, my husband claims to read the NYTimes and other periodicals on his Blackberry. So maybe it's not entirely about phone and email.
