I went through these the other day - a brilliant photo stream full of great candid photos. They really are wonderful.

Little Sasha is adorable. I love animal prints and am glad to see Mrs. O does as well.

I love these pics!

The whole set of Flicker photos are wonderful, although the comments underneath are a bit obnoxious. One photo that I really liked that focused on Mrs. O's eggshell and metallic belt ensemble from behind, where she and her husband (Oh yeah..POTUS..what's his name again?) are walking to the chopper.

I'm not such a fan of animal print, but from behind it sort of looks nice. I'd love to see a frontal shot of that outfit.

I probably say this in every post but I am not a fashion person. I like nice clothes and purchase things that I feel comfortable in, whether it is the latest or not. My fashion budget is limited so I tend to be a bit more conservative in the things that I wear, however, every now and then I will spring for something quirky and funky and offbeat, surprising everyone.

When I saw the picture of Mrs. O in her "flower power" outfit, I saw happiness, joy and a woman having fun with her 2 young daughters. Someone snidely remarked that perhaps she was dressed by her daughters, what's wrong with that??? considering the occasion. I am fascinated by her because she is such a great example of womanhood. The full package, Ivy League educated, loving mother of well behaved children, respectful of her mother and the memory of her father, close to her brother, who adores her. She has cleared space in her life to allow her husband to attain the pinnacle when she could be successfully chasing her own. Look at them together, he can hardly keep his hands to himself, after 16 years, the way he looks at her, always publicly acknowledges her. The President is obviously a very grateful man!!!

Michelle never said that she was a fashion icon. We created that Michelle but she is telling us who she is and I admire that. Sometimes, I like what she wears and sometimes, I don't but I still love her when she is wearing her 'don'ts' She is a great ambassador for our country. I have lived a great deal of my adult life outside of the US and let me tell you, the rest of the world adores Michelle Obama.

Let me add one more thing. I am a republican and a great admirer of Laura Bush. Let us not forget that this gracious lady defended Mrs. O when she was being unfairly ripped apart for being unpatriotic. Classy women, these two, who subject themselves to so much so that their husbands can serve our country. God bless them and their families.

@ the other Jenna - well said! I think many of us who visit this blog aren't fashion experts, I'm certainly not, although I do like and follow fashion. Your last paragraph was very important, too...Laura Bush is, and continues to be very gracous towards Mrs. O.

Here's a picture of Mrs. O at 10 Downing Street with Mrs. Brown. http://www.daylife.com/photo/06Ym2jU8AB1F6?q=michelle+obama

I'm a democrat and I admire both Laura and Nancy Reagan. I long for the days when First Ladies where neutral and separate from their husband's policies. Alas the knives are out 24/7, Michelle is wrong when she is right and wrong all the time. The comments on various message boards are frightening. This board is mistakenly seen as a refuge from the attacks on Mrs. O. Sadly decorum in politics is dead.

To add one more bouquet for Laura Bush: she had some very positive things to say recently about Sonia Sotomayor, as well. I often wonder what politics might be like in this country if more women were in positions of power. Would we have so many screaming folks on late night TV? Who knows.

I think the first photo is cute because it shows two of the Obama "girls" (I know I shouldn't call a grown woman a girl) all looking cute with their hair pulled back.

The whole family is just gorgeous; and they all possess such amazing style. They're so irresistible; you're just instinctively drawn to them.

Very nicely said, the other Jenna. I felt the need to address the poster who asked if the Obama girls dressed their mother in the previous thread.

Laura Bush is a lady. And, she understands Mrs. O's responsibilities. I admire Mrs. Bush for wholeheartedly supporting Mrs. O, and I think it was courageous of Mrs. Bush to come out in support of Ms. Sotomayor. It shows gumption and independent thinking.

I don't know about you, but I'm conservative concernig the lenght of coats, jackets and cardigans: they should not be shorter than what I wear underneath, otherwise I don't think it's elegant, chic or appropriate for my figure. I appreciate most of Mrs. O choices and I frequently notice she wears just the opposite way i like to...What do you think? Am I out of date?

Friday, June 12, 2009 at 3:57 PM | Unregistered CommenterC. Terra

If you're out of date, I'm out of date too, C.Terra -- i prefer my sweaters and jackets to be longer than what I wear under them.

Friday, June 12, 2009 at 4:26 PM | Registered CommenterChristina

Haha! Today I'm wearing a fitted bright blue tank top (which is pretty long - from H&M), and a fitted black cardigan, and my black cardigan is shorter than my top. On the other hand, I have long cardigans, where I wear certain shirts that are shorter.

All the Flicker pics look nice. I especially liked the ones of the Prez looking relaxed and oh so natural (it seems to be his best attribute, he is looks so real and unaffected by the whole power thing. One another note, though, I don't believe just because Mrs. O wears one animal print shirt means she particularly likes them; it's just happen part of her wardrobe.

On another note, someone please start a fashion blog for Valerie Jarrett!!! The woman exudes style! Did you see those pics? She even looks stylish sitting on top of a camel!!! And the one with the purple scarf nonchalantly thrown on her shoulder: Amazing! Check out those 3 pics from Flicker:

@ Terra, I don't think your out of date, more so its a matter of preference, I wear jackets and cardigans with long T's and tunics underneath them but I also wear it the opposite way too.

Friday, June 12, 2009 at 4:51 PM | Registered CommenterDee1814

I tend to like cardigans and jackets to be longer than the layer worn underneath (I'm old fashioned in that way), but I have been advised, while shopping, that the "layered look" is the in thing now, and it is very stylish and hip to be able to see the under layer (top) below the cardigan or jacket worn over it.

Are the Obama ladies still in Europe? I'm needing a fashion fix and we haven't really seen Michelle in week!

Friday, June 12, 2009 at 5:02 PM | Unregistered Commentertess

I love that Mrs. O is staying true to her philosophy of fashion should be fun and make you feel good. I particularly enjoy the outfit she wore to Westminster.

"I often wonder what politics might be like in this country if more women were in positions of power. Would we have so many screaming folks on late night TV?"

Well, Christina, if Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham and their ilk are anything to go by, the answer is "yes".

Just an observation: in the most recent photos I've seen of FLOTUS and POTUS, it appears they've put on a few extra pounds. Anybody else notice that?

Thanks for the DayLife link to photo of Mrs. O and Mrs. Brown, IVA.

I love Sarah Brown! Very cool relaxed red graduated dye suit she's wearing there. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of the Downing Street garden before.

C. Terra,

I think it's mostly a matter of personal preference. It took me a long time to get over thinking that my outer layer HAD to be longer than the under layer, but I've finally reached the point that I can go both ways. I think that may be partly attributable to my daily interaction with college girls and seeing what cute combinations of long t's and tanks with shorter sweaters, etc., they come up with. I also think it depends on the two pieces and the level of formality of the outfit. I think the longer t/shorter jacket is mostly a more casual look. I alslo think that it works best when both pieces are very fitted.

By the way, I meant to say thank you to Bevi and Christina for your kind words on the previous thread.

In answer to an earlier post. The Obama ladies returned on Thursday afternoon. Alas we will have to wait until Monday when the Marsalis family play jazz at the White House.

NEW Photos up of Michelle with Sara Brown on Yahoo.
I used to love that wide black belt, BUT she is wearing it AGAIN.
I am getting to where I don't like it anymore because of overexposure.
Time for Michelle to retire the belt for a few months.

I've been following these lovely photos and comments by the kind person who created this way of following Mrs. O. I punch in every morning to see what is new! sometimes I come back later hoping for yet another picture!! It gives me great joy and though I could not wear her exciting clothing, I enjoy greatly seeing Michelle wear them!!

It is a good world and I'm glad the O'Bama's are making it better .............. Dorothy

Actually they wanted to visit the museum of arts premiers, quai Branly (the most incredible reunilon of art premier there is in Paris ) It was imposssible because Chirac, the president that put it together was not in town ... There is rightnow a huge exhibition on jazz artists who had a big influence in Paris creative scene.
