Rahni Flowers on Rachel Ray
Mrs. O's hairdresser of the past 27 years, Rahni Flowers, spoke on The Rachel Ray show yesterday. Mr. Flowers gives us insight into why Mrs. O opted not to wear her hair in an updo for the Inauguration. The video also gives us our first peek of Mrs. O in her Isabel Toledo lemongrass dress sans coat or cardigan. Commenting on Mrs. O's day-to-day hairstyle, Flowers said:
"[Mrs. O] has a very active life. She works out a lot, she's got two wonderful children, she has a job, and she's a wife. She needs a hairdo that functions and works with her. In a collaborative effort, we work to get the look that will work with her lifestyle."
Thanks to This Week with Barack Obama for posting the video and picture. Additional footage from the interview can be found on Rachel Ray's website.

It is great to finally see the Toledo dress in its gorgeous simplicity. Also, so THAT's how the antique pin was worn. There had been some speculation it fastened the cardigan.
Speaking of her beauty secrets, here's a slideshow on her hairstyle and makeup tips for the everyday woman:

Yes, finally seeing the Toledo dress is lovely! I paused the Youtube video to look at the picture and see it fits extremely well and very sleekly on her body.
The body-hugging, sleeveless sheath is my all-time favorite silhouette for Mrs. O. Nothing emphasizes her toned arms and long legs better. I can't wait for the summer when we will see her wearing them again (although I remember her interview with Barbara Walters, in the middle of winter, with her defiantly wearing that sleeveless black and white dress by Jason Wu.)
Also, maybe it's his curly hair but I am shocked that Rahni Flowers has been doing ANYTHING for 27 years, let alone Michelle's hair. He looks quite young. I wonder why the video cuts out the way it does...I wanted to hear what else he had to say.
Chicagoan, that slideshow reminded me that Michelle wasn't always as understated with make-up as she has been lately. Look 3 is my favorite palate for her. It's understated but "shiny". She has that great nude lipstick, but no heavy eye shadow or blush, and her skin looks flawless but not heavily made-up.
During the Inauguration festivities, (on MLK day) she once wore this amazing, amazing bronze lipstick, and paired it with a smoky eye and then everything else was very understated but her skin looked incredible. It was such a great look! I hope she will recreate it. Here is a picture of it:

Dude was vacating? Oh. 'Splains the lackluster doo.
I used to go to Van Cleef's (Rahni's salon) many years ago. Rahni was my stylist during my senior year of high school and when I came home during breaks in college I went to him. The man knows hair and he's a really genuine guy.
The O's at a school appearance today: http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20090203/capt.9a5267bf03d64ef3a8c618b6be9e26b1.obama_dcpm125.jpg
At first, I thought that was the skirt she wore to the staff ball, but it was ruched, not pleated. She topped this one with a striped shirt and one of her belted cardigans, again. The boots are the ones we saw at the staff ball. Not sure if we've seen the hoop earrings.
Another great look!
Simply daschling! I mean.,,,,,,dazzling.
