Ten at Ten in Thakoon

First Lady Mrs. O dazzled on The Jay Leno Show this evening, wearing Thakoon's inside-out lattice rose print dress, seen more than a year ago for the first presidential debate. Notice that Mrs. O again accessorized with a bow at the collar, though the 2009 version features added sparkle.

What fun facts did we learn about our first lady this evening? She can name all six Brady Bunch children in under 10 seconds, plus Oliver (we don't know who Oliver is!). She felt nervous to meet the Pope, the Queen and "her musical hero" Stevie Wonder. And on the first lady's iPod? Robin Thicke, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock and ... hmm, we know we're missing one ...

P.S. Thanks everyone. Oliver is the dog cousin, and Sara Bareilles and Sting are the other artists on Mrs. O's iPod.

I thought she looked great! It was very cute. I love the question about her favorite music. I'm a big fan of Robin Thicke too :)

Always loved this dress, it's simple design, and the way it accentuates POTUS's magnificent figure.

This dress shape has to be my favorite silouhette on her and I think the bow is both whimsical and fun. Nice look!

Did anyone ever find out who the designer of the dress she wore in Florida (Miami Dade) under the flutter cardigan was? Can;t find anything that tell me and I really liked it!

This dress by Thakoon is one of my favorites and I thought she looked lovely. I noticed that this was the bow that she put on her grossgrain belt when they went to Church a few Sundays ago. I like her creativity and the way she recycles her accessories. As usual, her makeup was flawless and her hair looks so healthy. Ladies, my New Years resolution to take better care of myself has come early. I'm getting an early start....she's such an inspiration!!

Leno hasn't been on yet here, but I was curious as to what she wore. Love the silhouette, don't like the print, but who cares? She looks gorgeous!

Our First Lady was smart and funny as always. She exemplifies what is great about America and she looked fantastic!

La Primera Dama tiene una silueta espectacular. El conjunto de ser alta, delgada y con excelente postuta hace que todo lo que se ponga le luzca regio.

The thing I like most about Mrs. O's wardrobe choices is that she wears them with confidence. If you told me in the abstract that she'd be wearing a dress adorned with a bow at the collar I might be like - um, that's not going to work. But she puts it on, brings the confidence and all of the sudden I love bows on the collar! We should all be so brave stylistically...wear what you like, stand up straight and more times than not people will get it.

Oliver is the dog!

Loved the beautiful sparkly bow pin Mrs. O. wore tonight, just not the dress. Too much going on there with the print and the trim, but the fit was impeccable. Vilma, the woman who wrote in Spanish, said that The First Lady has a spectacular silhouette, is tall and has excellent posture, but that's all I got...college Spanish was way back when.

She truly looks great. Admire them for being committed to healthy eating and working out.

And Sara Bareilles!!

Slightly off this topic, there was a lovely Op-Ed piece by Charles Blow in today's New York Times, in which he called Mrs. Obama "the coolest First Lady ever". He was particularly taken with her mastery of double dutch, which, as she is from the south side of Chicago, should not be a surprise.

Oliver was the cousin who came to live with them towards the end of the series. Tiger was the dog.

Can anyone tell me where to purchase that beautiful rhinstone broochm The First Lady was wearing on her dress?

Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10:08 AM | Unregistered CommenterKay

oliver isn't the dog, oliver was a kid they adopted near the end of the show's run.

Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10:19 AM | Unregistered Commenterari2

Oliver was Cousin Oliver, the little blond kid with glasses. He was in the last few episodes before the show was canceled. Tiger was the family dog. And Fluffy was the cat.

Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 10:45 AM | Unregistered CommenterLadyCrumpet

Oliver was the cousin (played by actor Robbie Rist). Tiger was the name of the dog.

You're welcome! :-)

Gracias Vilma! Me da mucho gusto que una hispanohablante de su opinion aqui , bienvenida :)

I am having trouble seeing the video but from what I can see is that she looks beautiful as usual, hair and makeup flawless, and I have always loved that dress! Wish Thakoon would included a cheaper version of it when he came out with his Target line..

And let's not overlook the very flattering diva-Vegas lipstick -- it's a rather complicated combination of gloss and liner and color, following in the tradition that Naomi Campbell made her signature lip look some years back.

Can anyone tell me if I'm the only one experiencing problems with the site?

Today the print is so small, it's hardly readable.

Also, after I sign in, the "Chat" option is not available. In it's place I see a long list of connections which were not able to be made.

Thanks.

Her makeup was flawless and her smile was radiant, as Jay pointed out. But, I don't know, the bow is not quite my thing. I think most of them make her outfits look "costumy," like she is forcing it a little just because it is supposed to be her "signature" item. The only recent time I liked her in a bow was the outfit she wore to get off the plane in Denmark for the Olympics. It was the bow done right, as a nice accent ribbon to her very nice print suit.

Ok, then it isn't me! I thought my laptop had a virus or something...maybe just some technical glitch. Oh well, if this is the worst thing that happens today, we're just fine!

Hey guys, I was trying to post earlier, but had problems. I got some info for those of us who like the bows that Flotus wears. I found some similar ones on Spiegel.com at some really reasonable prices. Look up item # DH36000 for $14.00 in black, dark gray, orange spice(really cute), as well as ivory. Also, see item # 2AJ 42010 now on sale $12.00 in aubergine, dark gray, ivory, as well as scarlet. Now, if you liked the brown grossgrain ribbon belt that she wore a couple of Sundays ago, then see item # 25 44638 now on sale $9.99. These are only similar items and they do not have rhinestones on them, but with a hot glue gun and and some patience, we can have our very own design! HAPPY SHOPPING !!!

You are missing STING.
Sting is on Michelle's IPOD.

I hope that a post about the official White House portrait comes up soon, it is such a exquisite picture of the First Family and I am dying to know about Michelle's dress! She got some criticism for wearing black for the portrait, but to me it's a very pretty dress, and it's 100% Mrs O :)

Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 5:55 PM | Unregistered Commenterlatinadem

@latinadem, we do have a post on the portrait, here: http://mrs-o.org/newdata/2009/10/23/darling-os.html

I don't know the designer of Mrs. O's dress though...

Oops I missed it, should have looked back more, thank you Mrs T ! and thanks for such a lovely website!

Mrs. Obama looked amazing for this interview. It's interesting to see how her interview style has developed. She was poised and showed a great sense of humor. Bravo!

You have got to give Mrs O credit for taking risks. I've always loved this dress, it shows off her curves FANTASTICALLY and the bow actually works, I mean really works. It looks nice. I love it.

Is the black dress form the family portrait not Alaia? It sure looks like this dress here to me. There's a larger picture of it here too. The huffington post also shows some more photos of her dress from Senator Kennedy's birthday celebration in March here.

Ari, you're right! Hooray! I had expected the same, due to the ruching detail, but hadn't been able to confirm. Fantastic!

Hopefully Mary will perform at the White House at the request of the First Lady, maybe playing homage to Billie Holiday. That would be a treat for me!

Nora, how do you gather that the bow is forced? I agree with you on one point. That face is made and may I add that hair is laid. You lost me though on the fashion critique. Signature items, I believe, mean that we will see them repeatedly. She loves herself some bows. How hard is it to reach into a jewelry box and personalize a dress?

Mrs. T. thanks for staying on the Miami dress. I am really intrigued. Will it show up as a tag on the story with that piciture? I think the Leno dress, bow hair, are all superb. What imagination and whimsy.what did we do to deserve her? and Charlene thanks for being everybody's personal shopper.

Thank you for staying on top of the case of the mysterious Miami Dade dress.....I think we all want to know who the designer is!

Hope you had a fantastic time in Mexico!

I like this dress and the bow was an adorable touch. The interview was cute. I wish Jay would have asked some different questions, but overall it was good. I liked when Jay asked what they whisper to each other after his speeches and she responded, "you mean what I can say on tv right?" She is FIRST CLASS all the way!

Thanks so much Pippen, I really appreciate that. Here's another shopping tip for us fashionistas...if you liked the purple Toy wristwatch that Flotus wore this summer while in London, Bloomies has them in fluorescent orange, green, pink, as well as the purple one. See Bloomingdale.com item # WEB ID 120804 now for $195.00. They also have some unique styles in addition to this one. I know that this is not everyone's cup of tea, but if it's yours.......HAPPY SHOPPING !!!
