On a Winning Streak (Update)

The president has joined Mrs. O to attend the Chicago 2016 presentation at the Bella Centre in Copenhagen this morning, where the first lady has continued her fashion tour de force. This morning Mrs. O is wearing a lemon meringue brocade matelasse sheath dress, paired with a coordinating cardigan. More to follow.
Update #1: Despite an impressive showing on the part of our first lady, Chicago has lost its bid to host the 2016 Olympics. The AP writes: "Chicago had seemed to pick up momentum in the last few days, with many IOC members seemingly charmed by Mrs. Obama." Count us among those charmed, indeed!
Update #2: Mrs. O is wearing a Michael Kors sunshine metallic silk matelasse sheath dress!

American Royalty.
WOW !
Look at Michelle and just look at the President bursting with pride.
Oh my God....She's done it again! Simply stunningg is an understatement. This woman is the epitome of class and grace. I love this yellow color on her and the bow is my favorite. This takes a level of confidence that I aspire to. And ladies, if you want to see what LOVE looks like, check out the pictures of POTUS looking at our FLOTUS on Getty images. He looks at her with such tenderness...I LOVE IT!
What a BEAUTIFUL dress! Me want!
I'm not so sure about the cardigan, but at least it's not belted. ;-)
President Obama looks at Michelle the way my husband looks at me.
We're truly blessed!
I'm so PROUD of our POTUS and FLOTUS and I didn't even vote for President Obama! :-)
I think she looks great, just like the burnt orange dress she wore recently. She has her own style, oozes confidence and looks alive and happy when others look boring. Love it!
Rory, I agree. They are definitely American Royalty. I'm British but I am so incredibly proud of the Obama's. They are a breath of fresh air.
I finally figured out the best accessory for Mrs.O....it's Mr O of course...
I love looking at them together....
This picture is my favorite
sigh
YELLOW FEVER...
The cardigan inevitably comes out on a foreign trip, whether it's to meet the Queen or for a stroll in the garden. I am not to crazy about the bow, but it's one of Mrs.O's trade marks.
I do however LOVE this golden yellow colour. It sends the message of new ideas, methods and styles and a promise of a great future - a future for Chicago perhaps 16yrs from now!
I appreciate the fact that even though the Obamas would have long vacated the White House, having the Summer Olympics in Chicago would be an achievement like no other.
Cheers!
Yes, he is her best accessory! I love the way he looks at her. And her speech, my god, her speech. If the IOC can hear that woman speak and not give it to Chicago, they're crazy.
Rocky...
God welling..
The Obama's will be still in the White house in the summer of 2016
The dress has this 60s vibe, yet still it's modern
I love it
Yeah, not sure about the cardigan...the length of the sleeves make it look more casual, I guess. But I love the color combo, and the dress is stunning!
Yes very very nice. But I like everything she wears. I think I will get this style of dress sewn ... love it..
michelle looked nice chicago lost the bid.dame
Oh well...
Too bad Chicago.
Chicago dropped in the first round of voting.
My guess- Rio
Chicago has been dropped. Too bad, but it was fun.
If anyone is interested and if you read this quickly enough, Gordon Brown is giving his speech (again) on C-Span 2. At the end Sarah comes out again and she is really gorgeous in a great dress. Huffington Post has a picture of the dress, but it looks much, much better on TV. And her hair and makeup are very much improved.
Why did she wear a cocktail dress to an early morning presentation?
Come on, ladies. There is no America royalty! They both worked very hard to get where they are......and that is much better than being handed their position!
so sad that Chicago lost. It really is Rio's turn though. We've had Salt Lake, Atlanta, LA, Lake Placid, maybe another I'm forgetting. So let's share the wealth.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. The President was beyond himself with happiness to see his wife. There are so many pictures of them flirting. It would've been nice to have gotten it, but alas it was not meant to be.
I love this dress, especially the bow. It's like a take on an obi. Someone thought the fit was off in the waist area, but I don't think so. That area is kind of non-existent here. This is really an empire line, so from the bottom of the "belt" it's a straight shot to the hem. There is no waist area to take in.
The texture of this dress looks kind of reptilian - like the Wu blue (perhaps with charcoal overtones) she wore at the start of this trip. And - though it's long past that dress - I agree with those (like my buddy Posh) who thought it was a bit short. It's not an age or position issue with me. I just think there is a point on any woman's thigh where a hemline is not great. An inch longer would have made a difference in a good way.
I love this dress, and the way Mrs. O wears it.
I'm shocked and heart-broken that Chicago was eliminated in the first round of votes. I'm stunned. Sorry to say this, but it almost feels like a snub. Was our delegation over-confident? I think I'm taking this rather personally. Ouch!
Well, I'm proud of President and Mrs. O who represented us so admirably, and dressed so beautifully.
As a wife myself, I think this rejection will be disappointing to Michelle especially because she was on as assignment from Barack. It would have been great for their love life if Chicago had won it. I think part of his admiration in looking at his wife in these pics is, "Dam* baby, you are doing the dam* thing! Thank you! He even seems to be playfully teasing her first lady role." So it would have been even better if the efforts had culminated in a win.
Love the color and texture--not too sure about the bow.
@Nakajima I think its hilarious that you like to pretend you know what you are talking about LOL.
That is not a cocktail dress, the color and material alone suggest that. That is an obvious day dress. back to style school you go...try again
Mostly I would like to have seen Chicago win the bid because the Obamas really wanted it. Otherwise I could care less and probably would have been rooting for Rio.
I agree with Iva, they truly looked happy together today, The president rolls pretty easy and the loss will not devastate him. He's got plenty of other things to worry about. I think it was better that he went so he can feel he gave full measure and is not left to wonder if the loss could have been stayed if he had gone and didn't.
Michelle gave this site plenty to get excited about this week though.
Sorry for getting political, but when the images out of the country is about disdain towards immigration and subtle treats of assassination attempts towards the president. There are more countries especially Spain and Brazil that are are open to other cultures.
Last night my husband said he thought the Obamas should have taken Bo and left everyone else back home. Maybe he was right. No one can resist a puppy!
@ Willow - I think we never had a chance. Before the president ever said he'd go, I was hearing a lot of buzz for Rio and Madrid. Then it was Rio and Chicago. I think we threw everything we could at this, and I bet all of the "star power" turned some off because we looked like arrogant Americans trying to outgun the others with our flash. I think we over did it. But I also think that there was nothing we could've done to win.
@ operafanatic - her dress comes to her knees... http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Michelle-Obama/ss/events/pl/050108michelleobama;_ylt=AsblzPdwNyvNCaL_900M1lwIO7gF#photoViewer=/091002/ids_photos_sp/r2500962091.jpg
Pretty dress. Lovely fabric. Don't care for this cardigan, which spoils the look.
But Mrs. T describes it in the intro as a cocktail dress. As another poster remarked, this was a morning session. Puzzling choice.
And when did she and the other female members of the Chicago Olympic team wear the clothes that Maria Pinto designed? I never saw them.
Surprised that Chicago did not get the Olympics nod!
She is truly an American Beauty. Not many people can rock yellow and gold the way she does.
Well, Chicago is out but The Obamas are stiil "in"! Look how they mirror each other - they are holding their hands the same way! That is the sign of a couple that is really in tune with each other!
I'm trying to figure out why this belt works (whereas so many others she has worn don't). It's because (I think) it is the same color and material as the dress so the LINE of the dress is not broken....similar to when she wore the red sleeveless Moises de la Renta sheath dress. This cardigan works because it gives her the perect hourglass figure. She is a pear shape (as I am) and always try to balance out my more than ample bottom half with something a little volumizing on my shoulders or arms.
Also, she really should do the sheath more than the a-line skirt. There was a picture posted of her on DayLife with Prince Albert of Monaco in which she herself held down the front of her stunning golden dress (see previous post). What a difference, because in the other photo of her entering (a side view) she looked like a big golden ship sailing into the harbor. Sorry to be so crass, but that was the image that came to my mind. Don't get me wrong, I love her. I just think that dress would have been that much more incredible without the empire cut AND the crinoline adding unecessary volume below her waist. But a gorgeous dress, nonetheless.
Does she use a shimmer lotion or something? She GLOWED.
He's (POTUS) clearly in to her.
Too bad about Chicago but she looked glowing. I love the pictures when she and the President a talking to each other
@Original Mrs. A
Are you kidding me, a succesful bid means better sex? You have to be joking right? The President is not judiging FLOTUS on an Olympic bid. Some of you have some of the most ridculous logic. She went to Denmark because she is a Chicagoan, and their friends are on the committee, she did not go for sex.
Orginal Mrs. A--
I honestly don't think this loss will affect their "love life" very much. This is a couple who came through 2 years of separation while fighting a very long and arduous campaign and their "love" actually grew during that time. If they had lost the presidency, that love would not have been diminished. My feel on this is that this experience will draw them even closer together (if that is possible--they are pretty close as it is).
Teasing is a way of life for both of the Obamas. He has teased her about being First Lady before--even called her FLOTUS at one event. She got bogged down talking to people at another. While waiting for her, he quipped, "The First Lady does more politicking than I do."
They will be fine. He doesn't have the time to obsess on this loss. These are two very grown-up people with tons of responsibility and also two people who truly love each other dearly. And they are very good at communicating with each other.
@ Mia Monte
Are YOU kidding me? Does a better relationship necessarily mean better sex? Where did I say ANYTHING about better sex? Are you protecting your own issues here as far as sex is concerned? Panties in a bunch much? Sounds like it!
All I am saying is that I bet Mrs. Obama wanted to make her husband proud and had Chicago won, her achievement would have meant a lot to him.
@ Sharon Nelson
PLEASE stop misinterpreting my words. I never said that this loss would be a hit on their love lifehei rlove would "diminsh", that t that this is the first time he has teased her. From my comments, it is clear that I meant it was cute. Some of you on here amaze me. Seriously.
All I am saying is that I bet that her husband would have been even prouder of her had she gotten it. I don't know about you, but when I am doing something for myself and my loved ones' interests are at heart, I am even more passionate about it.
SMDH!
Mia Monte--
Your post came while I was writing my long, long post about the same thing---but you made the point much more effectively. Bravo.
WOOOOOWWWWWWW! Too bad Chicago lost Its bid to host the 2016 olympic game.......but I am pretty sure Mrs.Obama left her "mark" in Denmark. I just love the way Mr. President looks at her....He is truly her best accessory........TIE A YELLOW RIBBON 'ROUND THE OBAMA TREE ITS BEEN 16 YEARS AND HE'S STILL GOT THAT LOOK IN HIS EYES>>>>>>>>>>NOW THAT MAKES FOR GREAT SEX>
Orginal Mrs. A--
Your post hints at sex--truly it does. The president is proud of his lady either way. That was very obvious. A win would not have changed anything.
Some of you read everything literally. Absolutely ri-damn-diculous! Done with this post, you can continue hen pecking.
I honestly don't see where my post hints at sex. Sex on the mind? Hope you get some.
President and Mrs. Obama are a beautiful couple, obviously truly in love. I'm thrilled that they represent our country...they make me proud. Mrs. Obama's address was PERFECT...and I'm so sorry that Chicago lost its bid.
I know not many share my opinions, but I believe the gold dress, while beautiful in color, was the wrong fabric for the time of day and occasion (a business meeting). The cut ad style looked ill fitting and wrong for her shape. A lightweight wool sheath in the same color would have been stunning.
Again, a new stylist please. Soon. too many wasted opportunities already. The photographs were not becoming at all.
Original Mrs. A--
Can't take a little ribbing, eh? We're being playful, too.
Original Mrs. A--
The term "love life" is a standard for sex. If a guy asks you, "How is your love life?", iis there any question about what he is referring to? This is not an uncommon occurrence. At least not when I was younger.
STUNNING! I just love this look - the dress is very YSL but worn in her own way with the matching cardi.
Tomorrow is their SEVENTEENTH wedding anniversay and he still looks at his wife as if he has just laid eyes on her. Wow !!! They are both incredibly lucky to have found each other.
Aw. It must be so disappointing for Mrs. O and all the other native Chicagoans on the delegation.
I imagine there will be a small amount of fallout for the president for the loss, but not as much as would've come had he not gone to Copenhagen. Truth is, Rio offered the IOC a better financial package plus it probably is time for a South American country to get the chance. Rio is a great city.
An English expression comes to mind: Never venture, never have.
That said: Wasn't Mrs. O a smashing success?
