Off and Away

Photo by Mark Wilson / Getty Images

The Os left the White House this afternoon for a weekend away; the president is traveling to Montana for a town hall meeting on health care. We love Mrs. O's summery basics - metallic flats, a breezy skirt and a signature cardigan in bright pink.

Poor POTUS - bet he can't wait to get out of the suit!

The girls' outfits are always cute, and coordinating (I love Sasha's ensemble and her shoes are Kenneth Cole Reaction Kids Shiney Day Youth).

Malia, don't look down when you walk, you are a beautiful, tall, and graceful girl.

I like that Michelle is rockin' bright colors

The Obamas look great! And please, everyone, remember that cameras are on this family practically every waking moment of their days. Just because Mrs O or Malia is captured on one film still looking down doesn't mean she simply walks that way or has bad posture! Just enjoy and don't be overly critical! Mrs O-ers are on a bit of a higher plane than that, don't we think?

What a beautiful family! I like both of the girls sandals. MO is looking summery and happy and BO looks good as usual. I wish them a fun and safe weekend.

They are an o'Coutoure family! We are truly blessed to have them in the WH! And it is going to be fun watching the two little O's come into their own fashion sense.

Friday, August 14, 2009 at 2:16 PM | Unregistered Commentero'Coutoure

I love the shape of this white dress (or skirt?). It's sort of a soft bubble as the hem seems to draw in. On the cardigan front: In closeups, it looks like Mrs O is wearing two cardies! Peepin' out from under the solid coral cardie looks like the flower Gap cardie she's worn before.

(obsessive, moi?)

Love the shoes on the girls! And the look on Obama's face as he shares a giggle with Sasha! Adorable. Malia is getting so tall. She has the same gait as her mother. She is going to be a stunner! What an honor to watch these two young ladies grow up. I feel like they are part of my family.

They are coming out here to the Grand Canyon.

Michelle and the girls weren't at the town hall meeting, but he announced first thing that they were on their way to go white water rafting. Wonder if the SS would allow the President to do that. Probably not. Last December in Hawaii they wouldn't let him go body surfing. But that's okay--he's going fly fishing for trout this afternoon. Whole family should have fun at any rate.

Here is a link taken by the White House before the Sotomayor reception. Nice, warm interaction between them. Third slide.

Mrs. O. is definitely not at her best...a little sloppy-looking. That skirt does nothing for her.

Nice photo. I wonder when the first family is going to their summer vacation rental home?

According to Gibbs briefing on the upcoming week given Friday morning, the President (Michelle and the girls may go sooner or may not) goes to Camp David on Friday the 21st. On Sunday the 23rd they all go to Martha's Vineyard and stay until the next Sunday the 30th..

Well those photo's have made me cry! Hehehe. Nice pics though.

The whole family look lovely. As always. But I think Sasha is definitely the chic bunny in this pic.

I also think (75% sure) that the dress, and cardigan is from Bonpoint. This is probably one of the outfits Sasha got for her birthday.

The girls look stylish, Mrs. O seems to have left style back home for this one ;)

Yes, I agree. Sasha wins most stylish in this one. She is just all put together in her little ensemble.
I love her youthful enthusiasm.

Also, I just love how FLOTUS wears what the hell she wants to. She is not trying to impress anyone. I love her and the girls simple outfits that they wore today in Wyoming at Yellowstone. This is the same Michelle from Chicago, no change, love it.

Mrs T can you find out what designer Mrs O was wearing when she got off the plane in Arizona?! That dress is lovely, and the belt looks fab with it!

I pledge today to love Mrs. O's belts no matter what. This is the last time I will ever say anything about them. Because I love and admire her so much, they are now a part of my life, too.

Don't you just love her independence?

Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 10:38 AM | Registered Commenter

@ the other Jenna - yes I do love her independence. I think the belt looks nice with the dress in the picture your provided. I have taken that pledge a while ago. Kind of like the serenity prayer - I can't change her belt wearing ways, I don't want to, so I have decided to accept it. Sometimes, it's a miss, but there are many times like this, when I think the belt rocks. The woman is anything but conventional.

All of the pictures from the entire family trip are very nice. They are an obviously close and well-adjusted family.

IT'S A FAMILY AFFAIR

This photo is my absolute favourite from this weekends picks:
http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Michelle-Obama/ss/events/pl/050108michelleobama/im:/090805/482/346fd5f2889340989aa522be8be98679/#photoViewer=/090815/ids_photos_ts/r3113138448.jpg

The girls are getting to be quite tall and while Malia may be struggling with the awkwardness that comes with being a teen, I love Sasha's wild abandon. She seems to be so free and in love with life. Most pictures you see of her are either skipping along or giggling at someone or something. And the other times, she is like a young DIVA! Case in point, that photo from getty that "the other Jenna" posted, my girl is strutting her stuff coming down that flight of stairs.

You go girl!

There is one new pic of MO on yahoo and she is wearing shorts!!! There are also cute videos of the Pres ordering ice cream for the girls and the whole family looking at Old Faithful on NECN.com. I will give the link to the ice cream one and you should be able to find the other one easily.

HOT Damn!!!
Mrs.O has got some strong legs on her. And I'm glad that she's not afraid to wear shorts...
Oh I can't wait to see what Huffington Post says!

Thanks Nyon!

Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 2:21 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

@ Rocky - LOL! Sasha sure looked like she was strutting down those steps when they landed in AZ last night, all right. She's like a ball of characters. Silly Sasha, Sassy Sasha, Diva Sasha...I bet Mr. O gets a kick out of her. I find Malia quite intriguing because while I do think she's going through the normal tween awkwardness, there's something very refined and reflective about her - like she's an "old soul" or something. It'll be interesting to see where her future goes given her obvious uniqueness and the openings being a first daughter will afford her.

Now on to "Outdoorsy Michelle." Loved the rugged Yellowstone look from yesterday, and today, she's got on her Canyon shorts and sandals. And those legs...rock solid. I don't know many 45 year old women that can pull off semi-short shorts like what she is wearing today. She is HOT.

@ Nyon - thanks for the video those are cute videos in your link.

Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 2:48 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

Malia has her own funny personality. In the video when is ordering her ice cream she orders it in a con-up. Then decided on a cone- something did at her age – made up words,

I am proud to have a First Lady, Mrs O, who looks fab in shorts!

Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 3:45 PM | Unregistered Commentero'Coutoure

You're welcome!!

I was surprised to see the semi-short shorts (you would expect some bermuda shorts) and she does look good in them. I know there are going to be some people hating, but I am glad she doesn't care and wore them anyway.

Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 3:57 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

Thanks for the video clips. A single shot often distorts reality. I saw one on CNN of just the President and First Lady boarding the plane going out this morning. That's how we got the cute picture of Sasha and Malia scaling the steps on their own because their parents were already on the plane. IThe clip was shot from the rear and they were deep in conversation, but she looked impressive.

Noticed though on the ice cream shot that the President was chewing gum--Nicorette perhaps. He said in an interview that he never smokes around his family and here he is with them nearly 24/7. I don't fault him on his smoking. He has made a valiant attempt to quit while absorbing tremendous pressures as a candidate and as president. But it would be tragic for such a good and gifted person to have his life cut short because of it. I wish him a long and healthy life.

Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 5:27 PM | Registered CommenterSharon Nelson

It is so amazing how comfortable the girls, the nieces and nephew are in front of all those cameras in the ice cream shop. I almost feel like a voyeur peeking into the family side trips, but I am glad they are allowing us to share in the adventure. I am loving Mrs O traveling clothes and I hope that Mrs T does a vignette of every single outfit, so we can dish and compare. I like the shorts and I too know that their will be the "not appropriate" comments on her Grand Canyon fashion. You can tell that the first lady is in great shape. I think all the outfits reflect great family fun at our National Parks. Also I think the Arizona deplaning dress is lovely as well with the belt adding a nice measure of sass.

That little Sasha will cure whatever ails ya'! She is just too cute & Malia is getting so tall. She is going to be a stunner. It is such an honor to watch these young ladies grow up. They are having such an amazing childhood in so many ways. I hope they are happy & enjoying it. They are a part of history & I am so proud of how they have conducted themselves. They always seem to be of good cheer. It can't always be easy to have the eyes of the world on them but they handle it with such grace & poise...some adults could learn something from these two young girls.

I HEART OUR FIRST FAMILY!

IVA...that's a great shot of Mrs. O and Sasha! She looks fantastic and is perfectly attired for the Grand Canyon.

I admire her because she is a Mom first and foremost. She is traveling and exposing these girls to the world. She reminds me of Princess Diana. She also took her children everywhere.

Thank you so much for this website. With all the vitriol out there, it is so wonderful to come here and admire what is so beautiful about this woman and this family. She is always fresh, impeccable, and inspiring. Thank you Mrs. O!
