Any ideas about who made Mrs. O's plum velvet dress?
Update: We have confirmation that this dress is another stunning creation by Azzedine Alaia.
What a lovely, incredibly flattering shilouette on the first lady. We do love the cut-out details on the sleeves and through the skirt. To accessorize, Mrs. O paired a double strand of pearls with a diamond floral brooch - the same worn with her Lanvin dress in Oslo last week.

Hey, guys. Don't forget that Mrs. O and her hubby will be attending the annual Christmas in Washington concert tonight. It airs on Dec. 20th but I'm sure we'll get some pictures of the gown this evening.
I love both dresses. The colors are amazing! I can't wait to see more pictures. Thank you so much for this blog. I'm hoping Santa will bring me the book for Shristmas.
Sexy, appropriate, yet festive. I love the little sparkly broach on the side of the pearl necklace and the dress fits her like a dream. I wish more of her outfits fit her so well like this. Whoever the designer is, she needs to wear their clothing more often.

This is such a festive color and looks good on FLOTUS. I don't know why but I think it might be Alaia again. I saw the the commercial for the special and caught a glimpse of the bottom part of the dress . It look full with some ruching...we'll have to wait to see!

Mrs.T, i think the dress is Rodarte.i remember kristen dunst wearing a dress similar to what Mrs.O is wearing.but the sleeves on kirsten dunst's dress were sheer and is wasn't a full skirt.
they all look great but i hate picture.same with her pic with barbara walters where u barely see what she is wearing.please samantha appleton, we need a full-length picture of the First Lady.
Now this is the Alaia I know and love! The ice blue gown from the Nobel Peace Prize award dinner in Norway was not the best in my opinion and distorted her figure in a strange way. This dress makes her waist look tiny and embraces her womanly figure, which is usually what an Alaia creation does. The blue dress did not. I've seen his gowns on other celebrities and was shocked by how unflattering and too long the gown was. Any way, I love the cut outs on the wrist and bottom of the dress. The color is really pretty too.

(Re the Alaia worn in Oslo -- I'm wondering if the bottom part of the dress was steamed wrong which caused the ruffles to stretch out and that's why it was so long. The top of the dress was a gorgeous fit)
Oprah wears the cardigan to cover her heavy arms (she has said so herself on many previous occasions); she does not do it to copy Mrs. O, and BTW, Mrs, O has no such problem as toned as she is.

I think Mrs.O is every fashion designer's dream model. TALL, STATELY,VERY REFINED, LOOKS GREAT IN ALMOST EVERY COLOR and SHE HAS A PRESENCE ABOUT HER that causes her to stand out from the rest you notice her immediately.
I love the dress the is "LOVELYFUL" (I guess you realize that I've run out of adjectives to describe FLOTUS) and the fit is Divine showing off her curves. I would really like to see her in more figure flattering outfits likr this one.

BTW, I hope I don't ruin it for some of you guys, but that necklace is an anniversary gift from her hubby!! I saw a sneak peak on CNN. Actually, I don't know if he was talking about the brooch or the whole necklace. Maybe you guys can decipher when you watch tonight.

Seriously, all three of them have hit it out of the park regarding color, fit and flair. Wow. I am a huge fan of burgundy and plum around the holidays. What a great neckline for the FLOTUS. Face-framing and flattering. Just gorgeous.

@ Anagrom - I saw this the other day. Very nice outfit, it looks like the yellow Michael Kors she wore to a fashion event at the White House and the red Michael Kors she wore to the president's big speech at the UN. It is a great fit for her. I like the gold color.

I have to say, it's still shocking to see a First Lady who is wearing modern sexy clothing. Sometimes it just hits you how different Michelle Obama really is.

They are both right, Obama needs a strong woman and Michelle needs a strong man. They balance each other well and he does check her out because that respect as foundation grew to love and being together. RESPECT, LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP, NOT EXPECTING PERFECTION
That was sweet. FLOTUS and POTUS looked adorable. I watched while I ate my White House honey cupcakes (delicious, by the way) and enjoyed my spot of tea. I love that dress on her, wonderful color.Oprah had some thought provoking questions (wasn't really expecting that) and both of them were graceful. Everyone looked so nice...really a fun special.
The special was wonderful, but I really wish it was not so short. It should have been a two-hour special instead :(
The color of that dress looked truly wonderful against her skin - she looked radiant!
My favorite part was when Mrs.O said. "he still checks me out." Oh yes, he does. :)
I love this couple, they are so real together....he does check her out and he does admire her strength...strength in women is usually disregarded by men in this society...they want women to be more submissive...how great is it that two people can be EQUALLY strong and love and admire each other.

Did anyone else think that Oprah's dress was an homage to the red dress worn by Mrs. O to the first meeting with the Bushes? Same sort of top .Just in a shiny fabric. If she chose that dress because of that, it would be awesome!
